With so many different Panasonic AG-DVC20 on the market it might leave you wondering what’s so special about a 3CCD camcorder. Today we’re taking an inside look into what 3CCD technology is and why it’s becoming so popular with both amateur and professional videographers and film makers.
What Makes a 3CCD Camcorder Different?
CCD stands for charge-coupled devices and, as the name suggests, a 3CCD Panasonic AG-DVC20 has three of these devices. Simply put the “3CCD” camcorder has the ability to split the light entering the camcorder’s lens into three main colors-red, green and blue. When this happens the camcorder is able to more accurately measure and interpret the image colors it is filming by knowing exactly how much red, blue and green is present in the images colors. It then recreates them with an exceptionally high accuracy.
By contrast camcorders with only CCD technology, or one charge-couple devices, does not split the light entering the lens and gathers and interprets it all at once. This often provides a lesser quality reproduction due to its having to “guess” at many of the colors it is reproducing due to lack of accurate information.
