Quebec election debate – September 18, 2018

It’s very interesting to watch politics in Quebec, one of the major problems in Quebec is over-regulation to pay for their socialist ideals. The politicians in this overly regulated province, believe that tax credits, more tax benefits or basically more government redistribution of income are the solutions to solving their economic hell hole. One of the major topics in the video above revolves around immigrants using Quebec as a gateway into Ontario.

It appears some politicians think that the reason immigrants want to leave Quebec revolves around Quebecers being French-speaking, but that’s far from the truth, the truth is living in Quebec is depressing, living in any socialist city, province or state is depressing because there’s little to no chance for an uneducated person to be rich. Income taxes as an example is a tax on productivity, it’s common practice even in Ontario for employees not to do any overtime because they’ll pay more income taxes.

In Quebec, this income tax reality is even worse adding to this problem is Quebec’s welfare state, make no mistake about it overly regulated regions equate to government dependence. People aren’t stupid, humans aren’t stupid, if they see that it makes more financial sense not to work hard they won’t work hard, furthermore if a government creates an atmosphere where the people who work having higher costs of living than the people who don’t work a lot of people simply won’t work, or they’ll only work if a job will pay them an inflated wage.

Government intervention into the economy changes the culture of how people think. Minimum wages is the government forcing the private sector to pay an inflated wage for any job, this, of course, leads to higher cost of living, but worse yet is it changes how the population views working, especially if the government is providing welfare. Nothing is more irritating to a newly arrived immigrant to learn that their labor will be used to subsidize Quebec’s Welfare system into perpetuity.

So the instant a newly arrived immigrant realizes that there’s no benefit to starting a business, there’s little benefit to getting a job and the Quebec establishment basically wants its immigrants to be slaves to their socialist redistribution system of governance those immigrants will typically emigrate to a province that offers better incentives for them.

Now, compared to Quebec, Ontario is a fantastic place to be, also unlike Quebec Ontario isn’t as well known for producing socialist politician. Even people that don’t understand politics, understand what a controlling or an authoritative government feels like. Socialism is very oppressive, even if the people are being nice, or pretending to be nice, the truth is there’s no incentive to be nice in a socialist or left-leaning environment, you’ll be nice because you are nice. This is why immigration to socialist areas of the world typically winds up being very disastrous. The newly arrived immigrants usually pick up on what’s going on very early on into their arrival.

You just have to talk to people and listen to what they say, how they behave and their habits to figure out the culture of the region you immigrated too. Once you get the gist of the culture it’s easy to see if this system of governance will work for you. Quebecer’s have come to expect government entitlements, it’s embedded into their culture and Canada is approaching a period in time where this type of thinking is being challenged. It’s very important that those of us in the free market realize that most socialists believe that machines will eventually be able to do everything for us.

This concept of who will maintain produce or manufacture the robots is often a topic socialist don’t want to discuss because in their minds it’s only a matter of time before the government will own and manufacture the robots. But if this were true, wouldn’t Russia, China, and other countries long been making robots to do all the jobs humans won’t do? Even robots need maintenance by humans and the more complex the robot, the smarter and hardworking the humans need to be. I mention maintenance because most government people don’t understand “costs”.

You have to be in business to understand long-term effects of rising costs. When the government artificially raises the cost to build or maintain something, in time those items will become scarce in that region. As a town, city, province, State or Country becomes too dependent on imports it’s only then that problems start to show. Because remember the problem with Quebec is the same problem all across Canada. The economic problems we have today are easy fixes, but changing the culture in Canada, that’s going to be extremely difficult.

I’ve been saying that the only way to change the culture in Canada is for Canada to go through something similar to what happened in New Zealand, which is an economic crash. When the New Zealand government crashed what came to their attention was the amount of government interference in the economy. The regulations and protections that their government created became a hindrance to restarting their economy and it’s this realization that made them change. Now obviously these changes are short-lived as they’ll always be people that want easy answers and expect the government to enact easy answers for them. But this story always ends the same. If after watching that tired Quebec debate you don’t see that the Canadian economy is heading for a collapse I don’t know how to convince you.

Interesting times ahead.
