Do Women at Canada Post deserve the same amount of money as men? Rotating Strike – October 21, 2018,
I have a few friends that work at Canada Post and from what I hear, only about 10% of the women who work at Canada Post deserve to be paid the same amount of money as the men. A lot of the women at Canada Post from what I hear refuse to go to certain locations, refuse to work that requires excessive heavy lifting and in general refuse to do the types of work their apparent male equals are expected to do day in and day out.
In the real world the marketplace, not the government, not the union decides what an individual earns. In a society based on equality, there aren’t any gender disputes, however, there are disputes about equal work for equal pay and from what I understand only around 10% of the women at Canada are willing to do the types of work the men do. So, how to fix this problem that Canada Post has? I’ll tell you how to fix it strip Canada Post of it’s Crown Corporation status. This process should happen gradually because the problem in Canada that a lot of these Federal Crown Corporations are having their cake and eating it too. I have no problem with unions in the Private Sector, but unions in the Public Sector or the Crown Corporate sector is a huge problem, because the truth is Canada Post can simply raise prices on small businesses and consumers for the same service so they can fund both their Ponzi Scheme pension and their social justice agenda.
What if Canada Post was stripped of its Crown Corporation Status??
If Canada Post was stripped of its crown corporation status it would have to actually compete with DHL, FedEx, UPS, Purolator, and others. A lot of the mergers and contracts with Canada Post from large-scale Private sector companies would be put into question when renewal time for those contracts came, the bully tactics used by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers on Canadian taxpayers wouldn’t be as effective and CUPW would have to actually explain to the individuals making unrealistic claims that there’s a real consequence for your demands.
I’ve been saying this for years, Canada post is messing up the Canadian economy in so many ways. The reason this happens revolves around CUPW, I have no problem with Unions in the Private Sector, personally, I stay away from unionized jobs, but I believe they have a right to exist, that being said a Crown Corporation in Canada is defined as this.
Canadian Crown corporations are state-owned enterprises owned by the Sovereign of Canada (i.e. the Crown). They are established by an Act of Parliament or Act of a provincial legislature and report to that body via a minister of the Crown in the relevant cabinet, though they are “shielded from constant government intervention and legislative oversight” and thus “generally enjoy greater freedom from direct political control than government departments.”
Crown corporations have a very long-standing presence in the country and have been instrumental in the formation of the state. They can provide services required by the public that otherwise would not be economically viable as a private enterprise, or don’t fit exactly within the scope of any ministry. They are involved in everything from the distribution, use, and price of certain goods and services to energy development, resource extraction, public transportation, cultural promotion, and property management.
The keyword to understand about Crown Corporations is that they’re put there for the interest of the PUBLIC! A unions job is to look out for the best interests of the EMPLOYEES they represent.
Who does CUPW represent?
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is a public sector trade union representing postal workers including letter carriers, rural and suburban mail carriers, postal clerks, mail handlers and dispatchers, technicians, mechanics and electricians employed at Canada Post as well as private sector workers outside Canada Post.
If you can’t see the conflict of interest between CUPW Canada Post and the Canadian Tax paying public after reading the above then you’ll never understand how corporatism is destroying Canada. Public Sector Unions are the main reason why Argentina has a currency crisis right now, Public Sector unions are always right to raise prices unjustifiably and suppress profits because there shouldn’t be a profit motive for a public service. However Canadian taxpayers have to pay for the Public service and have no alternative or any say if prices rise.
However, Canada Post and CUPW (Public service organizations) both have the right to do private deals with the private sector? Deals that Canadian public isn’t privy too. So what does this have to do with Women at Canada Post?
I’d like to ask both the men and the women at Canada Post if all the men and all the women are lifting the same amount weight, doing the same types of jobs, working the same types of hours and producing the same types of results? If not, what justification is there to give all the women a pay raise? You know in the private sector, we don’t really care who does what job, as long as the job can be done we’ll pay anyone. When an individual is competent at his or her job in the private sector it’s in the employers best interest to pay the employee what the job is worth. I personally make it a habit of overpaying people who work hard for me.
Why Overpay hardworking employees? Because anyone that owns a business knows that good work is hard to find. I’ve met a lot of moric Canadian business people that pay their employers just enough so those employees don’t quit and guess what happens eventually, those good employees do quit and are usually replaced with not so good employees who end up ruining the persons business.
There are 2 sides to every story and I understand this, however, what winds up happening in most unionized environments is that the good employees end up suffering for the bad employees. In many instances, the union itself becomes corrupted as it plays the role of mediator.
In a country based on INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS, I personally don’t recommend spending your entire working life with a mediator who negotiates your wages for you. That’s the real creator of poverty if I were these women at Canada Post demanding higher wages, and I wasn’t paid what I was worth I’d quit, actually that’s what I did do in my personal life. In my late twenties, I made the decision that I would work for experience and demand my own wages.
Way back in the 1990’s I met men and women who refused to work for anything less than $20 an hour, how did these uneducated labors do this you ask? They got EXPERIENCE! When you get comfortable in a job you forget you have options, you forget that life is passing you by, you forget that if you’re a hardworking person that shows up to work on time and does what your bosses ask you to do that you’re basically in high demand everywhere, what keeps societies together are the people that fill voids or do jobs other people aren’t willing to do. If you’re this type of person and you’re waiting on Canada Post to give you a deserving pay raise, I think you’re selling yourself short.
So, what’s really going on in Canada Post culture? in my opinion, it’s the Pension, their Pyramid/Ponzi scheme pension has been pushed to the limit and as the workforce at Canada post grows there’s less money to pay the Canada Post employees who are already retired and/or about to retire.
Canada Post has been giving in to the demands of CUPW incrementally for years and every time they do a new demand is created, what Canada Post employees aren’t realizing is that their Pension is at the edge of the cliff, the section of Canada Post, which in many ways is Canada Posts most important section is the part of their business dedicated to small, medium and large businesses.
Even in real estate, the government tends to stay out of the commercial or business sectors, why because things get really complicated when you’re running a business, which is why even in the courier industry that there is no one size fits all.
Canada Post as far as business mail goes has to compete with Private couriers like DHL, UPS, FedEx etc. and guess what if Canada Post raises their prices any higher, they’re going to lose that market share. Amazon Prime in Canada does a lot of shipping, sure they use Canada Post where a need is, but their reliance on Canada Post is a lot smaller than it should be, primarily because Canada Post priced themselves out. Do you honestly think Amazon wants to do its own delivery? Of course not, but when they looked at the numbers they saw it would cost them a lot less to keep their reliance on Canada Post to a minimum.
CUPW choose the late October as the time to strike for a reason, we’re entering into Christmas season, Imagine if Canadians barely notice that Canada Post workers are on strike or don’t care? The other day an uber driver delivered my package. What I’m writing about isn’t made up fiction it’s happening and these changes are getting larger and larger.
Snail mail is practically dead and there’s no way to revive it, Canada Post priced itself out of the e-commerce market. I live in Toronto and most of the people that I know in e-commerce live near the Niaraga Falls USA border because even with the tariffs it’s sometimes cheaper to send mail to Canada from America than it is to send mail in Canada to another Canadian city in the same province.
That’s the disaster Canada Post has created. Don’t even get me started on how Canada Post gives Chinese manufacturers an unfair advantage over Canadian manufacturers. Canada Post is a disaster and one day it’s going to end. Will the people fighting for more get what they want? Probably! I don’t know, but Canada Post is on the decline and it’s only a matter of time before there’s a Pension Crisis at Canada Post.
Interesting times ahead.
