Trudeau rejects immediate retaliation on U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs – June 4, 2018

when it comes to me, nothing means more to me than making sure future Canadians enjoy the quality of life I did. Now, as many of you know I’m anti-union and I’m anti over regulations. With the exception of environmental and employee regulations in my personal opinion, most of these government business regulations are unnecessary. When I listen to real Canadians what I’m hearing is a lot of emotional responses.

Trump is a bully, Let’s stop Trump, We’ll show the Donald whose boss, Donald, You’re fired! Donald Trump you don’t control business in Canada, Trump Canada will be fine without cheap American made stuff, etc

Emotional responses, I’m hearing and reading a whole lot of them and whenever I hear or read these responses I’m often reminded of Don Cherry who during Olympic Hockey games when the USA would be facing the Russians would always remind Canadians not to boo the Americans. Often explaining to Canadians how important America is to Canada. Canadians forget that Trump is retaliating against Canadian tariffs already in place. I’d love it if Canada had the upper hand in negotiations, but that’s currently not the case, we’ve been using several tools at our disposal to undermine NAFTA.

NAFTA equals the North American Free Trade Agreement, and Canada has been blatantly violating this agreement for years, we’ve been blatantly violating it for so long that we feel entitled to do it. Now, if Trump wasn’t a business person, there’s a very good chance that Canada could have gotten away with this. The reality, however, is that Trump has caught us red-handed and if I were Trudeau I wouldn’t do anything right now.

What’s happening right now is Justin Trudeau is being bombarded by the Canadian Steel WORKERS UNIONS whose entire livelihoods are at stake, because their exuberant fees in Canadian dollars would cause them billions of dollars if they were forced to try and sell their product elsewhere. Because Union people aren’t good at business, they tend to react emotionally and violently. As many of you know Left-leaning groups don’t believe in negotiation they believe in force, they prefer bully tactics over the free market, they have gangster mentalities and being that the mere thought of Canada bullying America sounds comical I commend Trudeau for doing nothing.

One of the reasons life in Canada is so expensive revolves around workers Unions in some many different IMPORTANT sectors of our economy, the argument is that unions get workers more money, I completely disagree with this. Unions get bad workers more money than they’re worth. In a competitive environment hard work pays off, because if you’re good at your job the reality is that you’ll demand a certain wage, not only do you demand a certain wage, a good company may also offer you stock in the company thus giving you more incentive to work hard and more efficiently, which means the company could hire fewer people. Any worker benefit could be negotiated by the individual during the hiring process and currently, Canada does a pretty good job protecting workers rights.

The benefits of a union, of course, stem from honoring workers rights and helping to fight legal battles for workers, however, what is too often the case with union workers is that they eventually forget how negotiations work in the real world. The real world where striking doesn’t mean anything, the real world where an entity with a larger consumer/customer base rules, the real world where the same company you sought to control via unionization has the option to close its doors and relocate to a place where they aren’t as regulated or restricted.

In my view, Trudeau should have done nothing in the first place. Justin Trudeau should have asked Donald Trump to meet him in person and asked Donald Trump what does he want specifically, how can Canada help to put an end to this trade war. Trump claims he wants fair trade, I say listen to Trump, if Trump  says Canada is manipulating it’s currency tell Trump the Liberal government doesn’t control the Bank of Canada, explain to Donald Trump that the Prime Minister and Bank of Canada are 2 separate entities just like the United States and the Federal Reserve, from there Trump will talk about trade imbalances and Canada already taking advantage of the United States, with the exception of the agricultural sector see what you can work out or negotiate.

The thing to remember in all of this is that any actions taken by the Canadian government don’t have to be permanent if Trump is in power for 4 years keep the rules in place for 4 years, Trumps already been president for  1 and a half years. This is not a tough deal to negotiate.

Trump is old school, talk to him eyeball to eyeball man to man, man up Trudeau and ask Trump to meet in person, if Trump refuses, ask him over and over and over until he agrees. Don’t defend Mexico, don’t worry about Mexico, get a great deal for Canada. Again I commend Justin Trudeau for not allowing the unions and other special interest groups to control him.
