Canadian residents With Business Ties in the U.S Hit By Trump’s Retroactive Tax – August 13, 2018,

When Trump told Canada that he wanted to renegotiate NAFTA Trudeau’s Liberals and the corporations the Liberals serve advised the Prime minister to fight back with a tit-for-tat tariff. I was against this move the whole time, my advice was for the Liberals to do NOTHING TO RETALIATE, My recommendation was simple to make temporary concessions with the United States. The concessions made by Canada didn’t have to be permanent, but in the art of negotiations, there are times where it’s smart to play the victim.

Part of Trudeau’s schtick is social justice, he could have easily used Trump’s bully tactics against Trump. Instead of charging American made goods additional tariffs, what Trudeau should have done temporarily was removed the tariffs. Also, he should have conceded with Trump’s demands. Why do you ask? Because now Canada is under Trump’s radar and in Canada we have way more to lose than do the Americans when it comes to a trade war.

The reason Canada has more to lose is that our tariffs for businesses to sell in Canada are already high and we don’t have too many free trade agreements with other countries. The Canadian economy is basically built on trade with the United States and what’s not being talked about in the article below are the Canadian residents that in order to save money may simply renounce their Canadian citizenship. It’s interesting when I read some of these articles how the writers interpret the retroactive tax.

Canadian residents hit by Trump tax dealt a new blow

The hope in all of this is that this retroactive or repatriation tax is in violation of a US-Canada tax treaty. This is clearly a move that Trump is using to get Trudeau to come to the negotiation table. I’m not sure if it will work, because it doesn’t appear to me that Canadians or the Canadian media are understanding Trump’s abilities when it comes negotiations. Call Trump whatever you want, love him or hate him all I’m saying is Canadian politicians better start taking him seriously. Because what this move is actually doing is it’s making Canadian businesses very uncompetitive in the United States.

Interesting times ahead
