Trump says Canada not in a ‘good trade position’ and Congressman Steve Scalise ‘Canada is ignoring their timetable’ – September 19, 2018
A lot of Canadian Conservatives, free marketers, Libratarians etc. see Donald Trump for what he is, but a lot of the Left-leaning idealogues based on their reactions to the 45th President of the United States, seem to view the Donald as a bully. Unfortunately for them, in this instances, we as Canadians are the bullies. If the United States was treating us unfairly in these NAFTA negotiations, believe me, I would speak out about it. If Canada wasn’t a corporatists dream and all our markets were free, there was no supply management no unnecessary raising of the barriers to entry into the Canadian market and socialism for those who want to pay for socialism and free markets for those that want to operate in the free market then I would be 100% on Canada’s side.
That’s not the reality in Canada today, it’s not even the reality of America today, however, if we want to preserve our trading relationship with the American’s we have to be open to negotiating. If we’re not open to negotiating well Trudeau’s Liberals should withdraw from NAFTA. But nowhere has been there been any indication that Canada wants to withdraw from NAFTA? which is why in this instance I’m siding with Donald Trump. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
We all know why Trudeau’s Liberals aren’t budging and it has to do with Quebec. Quebec’s threat to leave Canada, has Canadians held hostage and well, we all know socialism doesn’t work, so if Quebecer’s really want to go full scale socialist with their economy I say good luck to them, but stop forcing Canadians to adhere to rules.
In my opinion supply management should be something exclusive to Quebec, meaning the rest of the provinces of Canada do not have to adhere to it. If Quebec wants to hold onto this monopoly they should do their own separate negotiations with both Canada and the United States.
There’s already an exodus in Quebec when given the option, immigrants want to get the heck out of there. There’s a labor shortage in Quebec, Quebec is known a the worst province in Canada to do business which says a lot because Canada as a whole is pretty darn socialist.
If you read either of the two articles below, you can see why I’ve been saying for month’s now that if Canada is not careful the Democrats will embrace Donald Trump’s tariff platform. Now the Democrats won’t be as rude as Donald trump they’ll implement their tariffs more subtly, but tariffs are a tax and Leftists love higher taxes to pay for social justice programs. Below are 2 articles that you may want to consider reading, don’t overlook these articles because an economic collapse is heading Canada’s way and the writing is on the wall.
Now, if you watched the video, what you’ll notice is Trump’s use of the word time. Trump is using time with China negotiations and using time with Canada and other detractors of change. Now obviously based on the actions of
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Chrystia Freeland she appears to believe that time is Canada’s friend in all of this. Personally I think this is the wrong strategy, however, I’ve seen and observed stranger things happen in politics before, where the result didn’t happen the way one would think. So I’m not discounting Chrystia Freeland’s strategy in all of this, my position in all of this is even if Canada manages to win this battle with Trump it will be a pyrrhic victory.
Trump similar to Maxime Bernier is giving Canada an opportunity to change the way we do business internationally. Make no mistake about it, this is a chance of a lifetime for Canada, this actually has less to do with Trump and more to do with turning the Canadian economy around for the better. The concept of allowing new idea’s to enter into our economic thinking, the chance to even allow socialism and capitalism to compete side by side and allowing the Canadian consumers to decide if they prefer the government taking care of them or the private sector.
I’ve never been one to discount socialism, I just think Canada should take a look at how a lot of European countries implement their socialism. If some people want socialism that’s fine, but those that don’t shouldn’t be forced to pay for socialism, they should be given options and if a socialist program isn’t working referendums should be held to address it correct it, remove it or allow a certain segment of the population who wants it to pay for it themselves.
If some people in Canada want supply management they should be allowed to do it, but customers should have a choice if they want to pay extra for Canadian. I’ve always been huge on Labeling, I don’t care what anybody says, Labelling gives people choice if I want to pay extra to buy Canadian slap that Canadian label on and let me decide. Anyway, the bottom line here is that Canada is going to change the easy way or the hard way. The worst thing that could happen to Canada with this NAFTA negotiations is if they manage to win.
Because at this point the assumption will be that Canada doesn’t need economic change. This will result in an economic collapse of epic proportions because in case Canadians aren’t paying attention, America is changing. This fiat based, Keynesian economy we’re enjoying today is an American creation and if they change it and we don’t change, well one day when the Canadian collapse occurs, we’ll have no idea how to fix it.
Interesting times ahead.
