How Canada Post Workers typically deliver mail in Canada – January 17, 2019
In the video below, you can clearly see people being people. Taking shortcuts at work!
Notice how nice and pleasant the woman was!
In the above video, you can observe most Canadians experience with Canada Post. Being that I own a business I have all my mail delivered to my business address which has a receptionist, so I don’t have to deal with this anymore, but in the past, this was my common experience with Canada Post workers and from a human standpoint I DON’T blame Canada Post workers for their behavior. I’ve worked a lot of jobs, I cut corners where I could also, however being that I worked in the private sector there were real-world penalties for cutting corners, which is something I learned as I matured. Which is why eventually I stopped cutting corners.
BTW Canada Post employees aren’t the only ones who do this, DHL, FedEx, UPS they all do it, I’ve grown to expect them all to do it, my problem with Canada Post is their monopoly, they’re a Crown Corporation, Canadians pay them more money and give them job security those of us in the private sector aren’t afforded so they can deliver a service that their equivalent in the private sector couldn’t do in the courier space even if it tried.
Being that I travel and talk to a lot of people from poorer regions of the world, the reality is that we’re lucky to have a functioning POSTAL service, keyword on the word postal service because, in most of the poorer countries I visit, most of the people prefer the private courier services over the postal service, even in America a lot of Americans don’t like USPS. I’ve met a lot of people from 3rd world countries that avoid their post office like the plague, in Canada, many of us like Canada Post, we’ve become used to Canada Post. Because most Canadians aren’t in business they don’t really see the harm Canada Post puts on the Canadian economy and it’s hard to explain it to them in a few words, especially for people who don’t feel like Canada Post is affecting their personal bottom line.
But videos like the one above tend to put things in a better context, what you saw there was the driver attempting to make his life easier by leaving a notice without attempting to drop off the parcel, this happened to me all the time in the past and luckily I had a car because if I didn’t, it’s a 30 minute walk for me to go to the nearest pick up location, not to mention the waiting line that I end up in when I get to the pick up location.
Now, from the Canada Post workers point of view, they’re simply trying to make their lives easier, but you see that’s why you don’t allow the government via legislation to create monopolies. Because at the end of the day, we’re all human and one person, one group, one corporate entity should never be afforded special financial rights that other people, groups or legal entities aren’t afforded. Canada needs a post office, but does it really need it to be this big? This video, won’t stop Canada Post workers from slacking off and cutting corners at work, in fact, these videos might cause them to demand another pay raise, that they expect taxpayers to finance.
Interesting times ahead
