The Uber and Airbnb of Real Estate are Coming To Canada? Will It Work? – February 15, 2019,

Redfin a U.S based company is coming to Canada, as many Canadians know real estate prices in the U.S refuse to make a comeback, which for obvious reasons made Redfin to date unprofitable, however, Canada, with the help of the BoC and CMHC have the protection that could make Redfin a hit in Canada. A few things that have happened in Canadian real estate that often go overlooked are the disappearances of Home Inspectors in places like Ontario.

Being that a lot of Canadians currently are buying homes without a home inspection, or opting not to make home inspection a priority prior to purchasing a new home, I personally don’t even see the need for in realtors anymore.

Prior to the CMHC and the Federal Government getting involved with mortgage insurance, the individual buyer would typically do everything in his or her power to make sure that the home or condo they were purchasing would survive the test of time, with the government, created housing boom in Canada, common sense has been thrown out the window as most Canadians see their house or condo as an asset, that will never depreciate in value. So with that said Canada should be an interesting market for Redfin.

When Uber came to Canada Taxi drivers went nuts, now that Airbnb is in Canada Condo and traditional homeowners are getting annoyed with all new guests that are popping up in their neighborhoods and now adding to this will be Redfin which if done correctly will give the Real Estate Agents industry the same problems facing the cab drivers. extinct. The problem with government created monopolies is what happens when something undermines it. The real estate lobby all over Canada is inflating residential and commercial property prices everywhere, a lot of working middle-class Canadians are in some serious debt and eventually, these socialist protectionist schemes come full circle.

Because the reality is that the longer this housing boom lasts in Canada the more likely the chances that more and more of these Redfin type business will start to pop up all over Canada. In Toronto, I’ve spoken to several Real Estate Agents that when you talk to many of them they’ll talk to you as if the housing market in Ontario is going to go up and up forever. I don’t even see the point of real estate agents anymore. There are so many badly built homes and condos all over Toronto that thousands of Ontarians are stuck with, the often ignored downside to buying a house or condo in a rising market is that if the house or condo you purchased is a piece of crap, it’s in your best interests to stay silent about it, because I mean let’s be honest here, Nobody wants to sell anything at a loss?

A lot of this craziness is being fueled by the real estate lobby and well in time, every industry gets what’s coming to them. I’m not sure if Redfin will be a success in Canada, but I’ll tell you one thing if the Canadian housing market continues to rise I’m sure a lot more people will look into Redfins 1% fee.
