Executive director of social justice non-profit Social Planning Toronto says: ‘Property taxes raised on those of us that can afford it would go a really long way,’ – March 5, 2019,

It’s easier to spend someone else’s money for your own personal objectives, there’s a myth that Liberals promote that makes the assumption that the government spends money efficiently. In Toronto, we have quite possibly the best quality of life in the world and this is because of the people of Ontario and not the government, in a majority of the situations, the Government agencies are the problem. What’s often the case with many of these charitable organizations is they’ve grown to become afraid to tell the people they serve the truth, which is that in order for most people to get out of poverty they have to change their thoughts and actions, which would then, of course, change the demands the ‘poor’ make to politicians.

The Leftist, socialist, big government culture we have in Canada, stems from the greed of individuals, who have been taught to believe that they’re poor. Poverty starts in the mind and it’s extremely important to understand the mental health aspects of poverty, which can’t be solved by Governments or charitable organizations throwing money at problems. People aren’t being taught about economic freedom, the point of capitalism, and free markets is to bring the cost of living down and create a competitive environment of problem solvers.

The drawback to a capitalist or a free market society is the waste it creates from the abundance of wealth it derives to everyone who’s part of it. What free market capitalism also produces is greedy people who imagine themselves as poor because they can’t keep up with the Kardashians. “Keeping Up with the Joneses” is an old saying that most people in the modern era ignore because lazy people who want easy answers no longer ask what they can do for their country and instead ask what they’re country can do for them is now the new normal.

Taxes aren’t supposed to be used for special interest groups, like it or not “Social Planning Toronto” is a special interest group. Of course, they might see themselves as defending the poor, or defending the interests of the poor, but the reality is they’re a special interest group and if you read the CBC article below, they’re making the assumption that by the government raising taxes on “those of us that can afford it” that the government with it’s new found wealth be efficient with how they redistribute it.

Here’s how much more you could pay in property taxes in 2019 — and where that money might go, Average homeowner will spend around $100 more in property tax, if budget approved, Lauren Pelley · CBC News

“Property taxes raised on those of us that can afford it would go a really long way,” noted Devika Shah, executive director of social justice non-profit Social Planning Toronto. “I think there are a lot of Torontonians in that category who would be willing to give up $10, $20 or $30 a year if it’s going to be directed to critical issues like transit, housing, and child care.”

I’ve been to a lot of charitable organizations and government offices that are situated on prime real estate, with that relatively empty during normal working hours. Now office space is usually leased, most of the people at these Charities get a paycheck every month, government workers definitely get a paycheck that usually outperforms their private sector equivalents and being that the Government doesn’t produce or manufacture anything in order for a government to give things to the poor the government or charity usually has to Pay private contractors or other businesses to either get the word out about their initiative or pay other private companies, whether it’s fuel costs, delivery cost, production costs at an inflated price to make their initiatives a reality and again most of the people who work for these charities or the government in some capacity are compensated financially, now when you raise property taxes, rent prices go up, Toronto is a rent-controlled city so new money into the rental and lease residential markets have to pay a premium for the people protected by rent controls, so this is how price inflation is caused and this of course leads to more poverty, because inflation hits the people at the bottom first.

Now, in a free market atmosphere where abundance is normal, the only problem you encounter as the standard of living increases for everyone is that some people via their thoughts and action become richer than others. In life certain people or certain groups of people who don’t pursue greed and instead barter their way to prosperity by following their hearts desire, these individuals typically end up wealthy not so much by the money make, they end up wealth because of how they choose to spend their money, wealthy people are often considered cheap by other people because they don’t waste their money on items or things considered liabilities.

I often notice a pattern with so-called poor people in developed countries. Most of the poor people in developed countries when closely observed spend money trying to keep up with the Joneses.

A lot of so-called poor people typically have mental health issues, that stem either from early childhood abuse or misguidance from their elders. It never fails me to see a supposed poor person who can’t live with an Apple iPhone.

iPhone especially the newer ones are very expensive, I’m in business and I refuse to buy or lease one instead opting for the cheapest phone I can find that does the job. The reasonably poor would do a lot better economically if the government stopped raising taxes and picking individual economic winners. It’s the people on Welfare that refuse to work that annoy me the most, actually, it’s the productive people of Toronto who are paying for the unproductive people because charities and supporters of big government keep raising the cost of living with their government-enforced tax and spend policies.

Raising taxes won’t change human behavior, if you give a drug addict more money, that doesn’t mean the drug abuser will stop doing drugs, in fact, the drug abuser might do more drugs. People need leaders, people need economic truth tellers, humans are complicated, some humans will simply choose the negative side of things, some issues can not be solved by government or by people. Prior to the creation of government welfare, individual charities would be responsible for the poor, when this was the norm, what would often happen is that poor people would change their behavior for the better based on necessity, what welfare does, what the welfare state does is it gives the false illusion of entitled wealth.

Too many people are being raised to think and believe that they can be greedy, claim poverty or claim to be part of an oppressed group and therefore be entitled to unlimited resources from the Government. No, I oppose this attitude, Toronto doesn’t need to raise taxes, what Toronto needs to do is look into their wasteful spending, in business if you business is not run properly you’ll go bankrupt, a lot of these programs that are receiving government assistance aren’t being run efficiently, that’s the problem, Toronto is still a growing city, it’s one of Canada’s largest growing cities and it should be applauded for growing without taxing people like the other cities people aren’t flocking too. It’s time Canadians raise their economic IQ’s

Interesting times ahead.
