More Proof Trudeau’s Liberal government are idiots – Canada exempts $110M more of U.S. imports from retaliatory tariffs – April 19, 2019,
The moment I heard that Jerry Dias would be working with Justin Trudeau during NAFTA negotiations it confirmed to me that Justin Trudeau’s Liberals were run by a bunch of idiots. Now, sometimes, what happens is there’s a Puppet President or Prime Minister (George W. Bush) types who are reliant on their advisors to guide them in the right direction. Now, of course, this never works, but at the very least typically the Political leaders are smart enough not to include Union bosses in trade negotiations. The instant I saw Trudeau doing this, the writing was on the wall for me. I often write lengthy posts about tariffs, you can type the word tariff in the Google search bar above the top right-hand corner of this post and you’ll see a bunch of posts I wrote about tariffs.
Now here’s the problem with Canada’s tariff system; problem number 1, the devaluing of the Canadian dollar. Have Canadians ever visited America? In many respects, Canadians enjoy a higher standard of living than Americans do, why is the Loonie lower? The answer is because we manipulate our currency. Tariff problem number 2, Canada’s existing tariffs, now sure you can argue that Trump started this, but the truth is Canada started this, Canada makes it very hard for Americans to sell things into the Canadian market.
It’s not like Canadians don’t want U.S products, but the Union groups in Canada fight like hell to prevent Americans from selling to Canada. Why is that you ask? Because unions are reliant on WAGES! If people stop working for WAGES Unions lose their influence. When there are more medium and small businesses, unions lose power, when the public sector shrinks, Unions lose power, when the Crown Corporations don’t exist Unions lose power. Unions are economic leeches, higher wages for the people they represent equate to more money for the union. The Unions strike it rich primarily off of the larger companies which is why Unions fight like hell for a higher minimum wage.
Higher minimum wages hurt medium and smaller sized businesses the most, on the flipside higher minimum wages help larger companies to raise their prices while at the same time getting rid of their competition. Now, to undermine minimum wages you have a family run business, but of course when you do that Bill Morneau tries to label you a tax cheat, but on the flipside to minimum wage, it’s actually discriminatory to entrepreneurs who have no family or possibly no friends, because these people have to either do things independently or import products from foreign companies that would otherwise reside in Canada.
These disasters primarily created by Unions, the Government including Crown Corporation have abided by their own price controlled market metrics. This type of Marxist derived trading system has put the Canadian economy in the delayed road to ruin. In my personal opinion, it would be in Canada’s best interest for this economy to crash sooner than later. Because the longer this continues, the longer these scams infest the Canadian economy, the worse the collapse will be in the future. As bad as the U.S economy is, Trump made so interesting moves to the U.S economy, essentially forcing the world to either change its behavior or face increased tariffs.
Now, China is in a much better position than Canada is, primarily because at the very least most consumer goods consumed by Americans are made in China. Canada on the other and as positioned itself as an irritant to America. Prior to Canada becoming what I like to call a free market socialist country, Canadians used to manufacture high-quality goods that the world wanted. Not only that, we had the personal, the people to do manufacturing at a variety of levels, well, unfortunately for Canada, a lot of our manufacturing jobs have been disappearing as have many of our Old Stock entrepreneurs that made Canada great. This brain drain is why most of the larger private companies that reside in Canada make most of their money because of the U.S consumer.
The incentive for these Countries being here revolves around the Lower Loonie when Trump talked about Canadian Steel and Aluminum from Canada going into America coming from foreign sources, he’s not lying. Most of the larger Steel and Aluminum companies in Canada are owned by foreigners and those foreign companies are here primarily for a tax system and our lower valued currency. Because it allows them to make a larger profit when they ship into the United States.
When a country plays this race to the bottom game, they better hope that a former business person never becomes the leader of the country they’re taking advantage of. Basically, Canada got caught with its hands in the cookie jar. Because I’m in business, obviously I could see this long before the average person could, but what bothers me the most is how stupid Justin Trudeau’s government is. The easy fix to this problem wasn’t to go tit for tat on tariffs, the simple solution was to match Trump’s regulations cuts and drop our existing tariffs.
If Canada had done this and went to the WTO Trump would have backed off, he also would have avoided messing with us. It’s not like Canada even had to make those removals permanent, we could have instead given the Americans a deadline and there would have been no way for Trump to challenge it. Would it make Trudeau look weak in the short term? Yes! But a simple speech about his role as Prime minister is to protect Canadian jobs would have solved that quickly. Furthermore, regarding NAFTA, this savvy would have also changed Trump’s tune regarding NAFTA negotiations, whatever Trump wants we give it to him temporarily… As long as America makes some changes that benefit Canada, like the purchasing of more Canadian manufactured goods, furthermore Canada could also make more demands of Mexico, like getting them to raise the value of their currency.
Instead, Trudeau’s cabinet instead of working with Trump waited on Mexico to sign their own deal with Trump, which eventually led to Trudeau’s government scrambling to secure their own deal which is now called the USMCA. Notice Canada is last in that acronym It’s not even USCMA it’s US, Mexico, Canada Agreement. Now I understand that the Canadian steel and aluminum shipments aren’t included in NAFTA or USMCA but I illustrated my point above to show how incompetent Trudeau’s government is about how this country functions. This stuff is common sense and Trudeau quite frankly has an easy job. As Canadians border security isn’t something we really have to budget for, as Canadians, we don’t have to be the Policemen of the world, as Canadians we border with the United States and speak English. The reality of the situation is that Canadian consumers should be the luckiest consumers in the world, which means we should be fighting for a strong Canadian dollar and our focus on manufacturing should revolve around making quality products.
A stronger currency would equate to Trump or any future U.S president having any qualms about Canada, a stronger currency equals a better standard of living. Canadians forget that it’s because of our current tariff system along with the lower loonie that makes the cost of living so expensive. The reality is in case you’re wondering, wages in Canada were inflated a long time ago to pay for socialist big government, protectionist programs we have today. There’s this assumption that Universal Health Care is Free? Now, every government program we have is paid for by a devalued Loonie and wages were inflated a long time ago by Crown Corporations and Unions. Wages are stagnant in Canada because they were inflated in the 1990s. Why I talk about wages so often is that the Canadian dollar is artificially devalued, Canadians have to let that sink in, The Canadian dollar is artificially devalued The Canadian dollar isn’t supposed to be so low, we manipulate it because our current economy is dependent on it.
If you go to a lot of cities all across Canada, they haven’t experienced a real estate or a credit boom, why? Because a lot of the demand in real estate is FAKE, CMHC allows a whole new type of speculator into the housing market, a government-backed insured housing market also fuels more lending institutions to be attracted to the Canadian market, easy lending and access debt actually assists in devaluing the currency. If you notice every time the Loonie strengthened Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz found an excuse to lower interest rates.

Now in Switzerland, they have negative interest rates, but Switzerland doesn’t have a National minimum wage and the Swiss are still known for making quality goods and strong small business culture. When you’re in Canada the first thing you’ll notice is how dominant big Corporations are here. This influence has a price that it appears Trudeau’s government might be beginning to understand? I don’t know, the only thing I know is that the fact Canada exempts $110M more of U.S. imports from retaliatory tariffs is a sign that Trump made Trudeau back down! It also proves that Trudeau and his cabinet are a bunch of idiots. I mean come on, GM Oshawa has shrunk in size every since Jerry Dias became the leader of Unifor and this was Trudeau’s advisor during NAFTA talks.
Unions have provided value for employees, I won’t dispute that, but if Unions were any good at building or manufacturing things themselves, instead of simply representing workers they’d instead be manufacturing their own cars right, or are unions admitting that it takes a certain skill to be an actual job creator?
I hope Canadians will wake up soon because the coming crash will be extremely painful if they don’t!
