Canadian National Railway gets strike action notice from union another potential economic hit to Western Canadian Oil – November 16, 2019,
Being that Canadian National Railway is a privately owned company, although I’m not a fan of labor unions, the employees of Canadian National Railway have the right to strike and I don’t oppose it in any way. Canadian National Railway is not a Crown corporation nor are there employees deemed a Public Sector workforce, they’re a for-profit business and if the employees feel like they’re being short-changed, they’re in their rights to strike for the purposes of collective bargaining.
But here goes the reason why capitalism works, free-market capitalism is all about options and alternatives, I actually think strategically the union representing the Canadian National Railway did a smart thing, Justin Trudeau has basically made building pipelines illegal in Canada, thereby minimizes Alberta crudes options to get to market and via this Liberal Government created monopoly the Teamsters labor union have found a way to make sure it’s employees benefit. Personally I think Unifor is the works labor union in Canada, however the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in this instance appears to have strategically, but themselves in a position to benefit.
Now in the long term, I’m not sure what will happen, I’m not a big fan of labour unions, I don’t think collective bargaining n the long term benefits society, my belief is more entrepreneurship creates more options, which creates more benefits for employees than they’d ever received with a labor union. That aside, currently I think it was a smart move. Unfortunately for the province of Alberta, depending on the length of this potential strike this could equate to even more job loss. I’ve been saying for months if you’re an investor like I am, you know Albertan Oil, the Canadian oil patch is under attack, primarily by foreign entities, who see the writing on the wall that the energy sector is going to be going through some changes.
Climate change alarmists and Labor unions are all in on what’s happening, they might not know it yet, but Labor unions are internationally united now. They now collectively lobby the government in different ways to appease entities that help their growth. I’m not saying any names here, but the information is available if you’re willing to do the research. There’s an energy revolution occurring and similar to the internet if it’s unleashed the energy sector will resemble the tech sector.
In the tech sector, new innovations drive down prices, competitive forces drive costs down, in the energy sector especially in particular energy cartel based countries, if the energy sector opens up, North America is going to profit greatly, now there are multiple ways to look at this, because you have to remember there are a lot of companies responsible for the retirements of a lot of people, so when you’re able to comprehend the magnitude of new energy economy and the role Canada, namely Alberta could play in all of this, particular events and circumstances related to the Albertan oil patch become easier to understand.
Greta Thunberg as an example is just the face of a much more sinister plan for the global economy. There are particular countries whose entire standard of living is dependent on inflated energy prices, Austrian economics doesn’t exist in too many countries around the world, oligarchs are way more dominant globally than Democratic nations and this is often the reason, why people like me try to break down how Globalism works! Globalists want to maintain the status quo, it’s really that simple, what they fear most is a rise in competition, energy independence like it or not leads to instability of nations who squander the wealth of the people they serve. Energy independence equates to a reshaping of a country.
Protectionism in all of its forms can protect the collective it represents for a period of time, but if let’s say a bunch of new innovations starts coming to market, well then you get a scenario where some cities have to create LAWS to stop uber from putting cab drivers out of work, laws to prevent Airbnb from undermining rent controls, minimum wages to prevent deflation in prices which of course would hurt the tax base of the bloated public sectors and climate change laws to drive costs up to energy-related businesses. The cost of protectionism, it’s something rarely understood by the greedy natures of particular individuals!
This potential Canadian National Railway strike is bad for business in Canada, I’m not entirely sure what will happen, but I’ll be monitoring this very closely.
