Average Rent In Australia (Monthly) Average Rent In Canada (Monthly)
Sydney: AU$329-519 Ottawa: CA$722-1244 (AU$762-AU$1305)
Melbourne: AU$309-552 Toronto: CA$715-950 (AU$756-AU$1005)
Brisbane: AU$455-769 Montréal: CA$820-920 (AU$869-AU$975)
Perth: AU$360-431 Vancouver: CA$675-850 (AU$715-AU$896)

When it comes to living in Australia vs. living in Canada, it’s the RENT that matters, especially if you’re thinking about living in a major city. In Canada, on AVERAGE, rents will be cheaper NATIONALLY, meaning living in the middle of nowhere in Canada helps lower the rent costs, which on paper makes Canada appear to have a lower OVERALL cost of living compared to Australia, but if you plan to do that, you’re increasing your commute to work or school, and Canada is a very large country.

There are still areas in Canada with water scarcity, but they’re cheap to live in and drive down Canada’s average cost of living.

In Australia, however, where they get you in regards to pricing is everything else. Canada borders the United States, and it is the U.S.’s largest trading partner, which gives it a huge advantage over Australia in regards to IMPORTS.

Australia’s largest trading partner is China, so when you look at Canada’s debt to gdp ratio(Canada Government debt accounted for 69.7 % of the country’s Nominal GDP in Mar 2024,) compared to Australia’s Debt (Australia Government debt accounted for 38.1 % of the country’s Nominal GDP in Jun 2023,) clearly Canada has far more economic problems than Australia.

Housing is a DOMESTIC problem that revolves around DOMESTIC laws and domestic lawmakers, so systematically, on paper, Canada is not only worse it’s far worse. The Canadian government owes $1.3 TRILLION dollars, whereas the Australian government owes around $900 Billion.

In March 2023, Australian household debt accounted for 116.6 % of the country’s Nominal GDP, whereas private debt to GDP in Canada increased to 269.10% in 2023 from 268 percent in 2022.

Systematically, on the economic side of things, Australia is FAR easier to fix than Canada, but that doesn’t mean that Canada can’t be fixed before Australia is fixed. Both countries embrace a PROGRESSIVE political agenda; however, with Canada, their Progressive agenda is far more destructive and stretches to every branch of their government.

Municipal and Federal politics in Canada are terrible economically, and Canadian voters have little comprehension of how destructive local politics are to their standard of living. Canadians appear Conservative in how they spend their money but Liberal in what they vote for, which is reflected in their rental markets, which are mostly a local government-created problem.

In Australia, it’s a regulations nightmare. You need a permit for everything business-related, which drives up costs for everything. With that said, rental prices in Australia are lower, which is reflected by local governments.

Meaning that, on paper, Australian municipal voters are far more intelligent than Canadian local voters. Australia is mostly at war with business, which, if you’re not a business owner, you’re not going to understand, but locally, their housing situation, although nightmarish, isn’t as bad as Canada’s.

For example, you can know that America’s local voting public is smarter than both Canada and Australia because if leftists take over a city, Americans with a basic comprehension of MATH and local politics will move away, bringing their Conservative politics with them. Conservative cities exist in America; you don’t find this in Canada, which is why almost all of their major cities have housing “shortages,” which drive up rent prices. Canadians don’t appear to understand that you can’t fix housing with PRICE CONTROLS and government bureaucrats.

Housing shortages are actually landlord shortages, and Landlord shortages are usually the result of local politics. There really is no such thing as a housing shortage; people could literally pitch a tent and live anywhere. However, if the local governments COMPLICATE the housing situation, fewer people will want to become landlords(Landlords are BUSINESSPEOPLE), which is the real reason why Canada’s rental markets are so expensive.

So, FISCALLY, Australia is currently in a better position than Canada, which only means their government has a more sustainable policy than Canada. Canada’s fiscal situation is reflected in its PRIVATE debt markets.

Their government is far more bloated than Australia’s, and obviously, because Canadian government price INFLATION is fueling higher costs of living, while their federal government continues to grow in size, Canada’s fiscal situation, at least for now, is far more dire.
