God, Capitalism, and the Decline of Nations: A Christian Reflection on South Africa and BRICS
In Scripture, we see how swiftly God’s favor departs from Israel when His people worship other gods. The warning is clear: when nations abandon the Almighty, decline follows. Today, as many look to BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) as a rising economic alternative, it’s worth examining the spiritual foundation of these countries—particularly Russia, Brazil and South Africa, which are nominally Christian.
Russia’s Christianity, however, often takes a backseat to its deeply ingrained socialist ideology. South Africa faces a similar contradiction. Though many identify as Christian, the nation is plagued by tribal politics, cultural remnants of ancestral idol worship, and a rising tide of Marxist rhetoric that undermines Biblical values.
I can’t know what’s in a person’s heart, but I will say this: Christians in South Africa must speak out against the destruction of their nation by greedy Marxists—politicians who continuously scapegoat others while blocking the path to prosperity.
Free Markets vs. Marxism: What We Stand For
This blog does not focus on race; we focus on free-market capitalism. Contrary to popular belief, capitalism isn’t just about growing profits—it’s about creating efficiency, innovation, and dignity through work. The idea that some should work while others live off the efforts of others is a socialist lie. Christianity teaches charity through voluntary sacrifice, not state-mandated redistribution. We are not slaves of the state.
If someone chooses not to work, that’s their choice. But they have no right to demand the government force others into economic servitude to support them. That’s the essence of socialism and Marxism—control.
As Christian capitalists, we believe in holding other capitalists accountable—especially those who act out of greed. But we cannot do that if we are censored, silenced, or punished simply for speaking freely and living our values. We are called to build God’s kingdom on Earth, and part of that includes economic stewardship.
Property Rights and God-Given Order
Property rights, though man-made, are rooted in the order God established through His laws. There’s nothing “fair” about property rights—they’re not supposed to be. They are a structure that allows individuals to prosper and build. The alternative is chaos. Socialism preys on envy: “That person has too much. Take from them and give to me.” That’s not Biblical justice. That’s theft.
In a truly free society, you can boycott, you can protest, and you can walk away. Free trade, not forced equality, is the engine of true wealth. Socialist systems, like the one infecting South Africa, destroy the common man’s ability to thrive by censoring opportunity and centralizing control.
Take one of South Africa’s openly Marxist parties—they weaponize racial division to gain power. Meanwhile, their opponents are censored globally for saying anything similar. It’s a one-sided, rigged system that discourages honest debate.
The Truth About Land and Ownership
Let’s be clear: property rights are not divine rights. I don’t subscribe to the modern idea of “indigenous land rights” either. In the Bible, God gave land to Israel—but He also warned them they would lose it if they disobeyed. Land ownership is temporary and conditional; all land belongs to God. What matters is not who owned it first, but who can use it best.
I don’t farm. I live in the city. I’m just thankful someone is growing food—regardless of their race. If a black or white farmer provides clean, safe food, I don’t care about their background or beliefs. That’s between them and God. As long as they’re not poisoning me or others, let them farm.
In a free society, you will inevitably interact with people who hold views you disagree with—even bigots. That’s the price of freedom. None of us are perfect. I include myself in this criticism. I don’t claim to have all the answers. That’s God’s role. I speak truth as best I can and leave the rest to Him.
Socialism: Glory to Man, Not God
Marxists and socialists don’t want to glorify God. They want the glory for themselves. They want to say: “Look what we did. We ended poverty. We redistributed wealth. We conquered this land.” But in reality, they take what isn’t theirs and then call it progress.
Look at Russia invading Ukraine, or how socialism has hollowed out formerly productive nations. These ideologies thrive on control, not compassion.
Africa, Idolatry, and Cultural Decay
A large portion of the Bible takes place on the African continent. This is no coincidence. Idolatry and spiritual confusion have long plagued the region. Before the rise of Islam—a relatively recent religion—the Middle East was filled with idol worship. Ancient Egypt left behind countless artifacts testifying to their many gods. Even today, many African tribes retain spiritual practices connected to these old belief systems.
India too remains steeped in idol worship. These nations, while economically active, struggle to conceptualize property rights or free markets as we understand them through Judeo-Christian values.
South Africa’s Economic Trap
I don’t know what god the Afrikaners serve, though I believe many are Christian. But I do know that when South Africa began facing immigration pressure from neighboring African nations, white South Africans responded by embracing socialist policies—like minimum wage laws to protect against cheap labor.
That backfired.
Now, many black South Africans have embraced socialism, using it against the very system that introduced it. Similar patterns exist in Canada, Australia, and the United States. Socialism is no longer a fringe idea—it has become cultural. And many white citizens, knowingly or not, support it.
Final Thoughts: You Can’t Let the Devil In
In closing, once you let in the devil—whether in the form of socialism, Marxism, or any other collectivist ideology—you invite every kind of evil along with it. This isn’t about one group being better than another. It’s about what happens when a society turns its back on God.
A positive multiplied by a positive is a positive. But introduce a negative—and the outcome changes. That’s why God said to serve Him and Him only. He is the constant. Everything else is chaos.
