First and foremost, as Christians, it is important to understand that Christians are allowed to have differing views of the Bible. It is not my place, or anyone else’s place, to put into your heart what is truth and what is not truth.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, The Censorship Agenda
For some context, people who reject the Trinity, in my view, are pushing a censorship agenda, because there is no freedom of thought and no freedom of speech without my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Many Jews to this very day still reject Christ because of His thoughts, words, actions, and what they see as a lack of “fulfillment” within their doctrines. They maintain that Christ was, at best, another prophet and not the Son of God.
The Question of Christ’s Identity
If you accept that Christ is not God, then freedom of thought and freedom of expression do not exist under the “love thy neighbor” commandment taught to us by Christ. Unlike the laws of Moses, Christ elevated two commandments above all others: love God with all thy heart, and love thy neighbor as thyself.
Mark 12:29–3129 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Many people who reject the Trinity hate the idea of loving thy neighbor as thyself, which in modern language means allowing what you might consider Satan, or your enemy, the same rights God gave you.
Love Versus Retribution
“Love thy neighbor” is fundamentally different from “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” under the laws of Moses, which most humans tend to prefer:
Exodus 21:22–2522 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
If you are an alpha male, the laws under the books of Moses may resonate with you more, because they give you permission to judge others based on your own logic, allowing you to remove love from the equation entirely.
So when someone says, “Jesus is not God,” in a modern context, I interpret that as an endorsement of censorship. Prior to Christ, God’s chosen people, the Jews, lived under a rigid structure of governance where even working on the Sabbath could result in death. Most ancient cultures had unique rituals that helped them in certain situations but also cursed them.
The Sabbath and the Example of Christ
God rested on the Sabbath day. Christ worked on the Sabbath day. If you are a Christian, you follow Christ, because without Christ there is no Holy Spirit, which aligns perfectly with “love thy neighbour as thyself.”
God does not act on my command. God is the boss of me, and He is the boss of Christ. We acknowledge the Sabbath, but through Christ’s example we know we have fallen short of being able to truly rest on the Sabbath. God did all the work and then rested; we have not done the work. God loved us enough that He allows us to sin. He loved us enough to send His Son, who gave us conscious awareness of the Holy Spirit without requiring a middle person.
If you need a middle person for God, it is because you are not reading the Bible for yourself and instead are allowing others to interpret the Bible for you.
Headlines, Interpretation, and Accountability
I am in business, and I know how to write provocative headlines to get people’s attention. Notice that the headline did not say, “Read the Bible for yourself.” Instead, it says, Jesus Didn’t Preexist Heaven.
Jesus Didn’t Preexist Heaven, What a Goofy Statement
Yeshua came to us in the flesh to fulfill prophecy. Nobody spoke the way He spoke, nor did they do what He did. We have the comfort of second-guessing Christ only after becoming beneficiaries of the many blessings given to Him by God the Father.
Freedom, Censorship, and the Modern World
The very thought of freedom of expression did not exist until my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In most atheistic countries around the world, censorship is an accepted practice because “love thy neighbor as thyself” does not exist as law without Christ.
People forget this. As I write this, the United Kingdom, having become increasingly secularized, is now openly banning freedom of speech. That is the real world if you genuinely believe that Jesus is not God.
If Christ is not God, we return to the Old Testament world. In modern China, for example, their atheistic god resembles Old Testament authority: Communist Party representatives decide how and when laws are administered, and if you do not aspire to be part of the Communist Party of China, you are considered the enemy.
The Role of the Holy Spirit
If you read the Old Testament, you may notice how hostile or unfair God can appear. That is because the world was not yet ready for the Son of God, who stripped power from entrenched power structures and gave power to the people through direct access to the Holy Spirit, without a mediator.
If you reject Christ, you reject the Holy Spirit. Without the Word of God, this becomes difficult to understand. The truth is that many Christians do not read the Holy Bible. Without context, manipulation becomes easy.
Just like anything else, when you are the beneficiary of something, you often fail to value it. Christ taught this lesson as well. He healed people, and they did the exact opposite of what He asked them to do.
Mark 7:34–37
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
Choice, Consequence, and Love
In popular culture, young people call that “snitching.” Hopefully you can see why God knew His Son’s time on earth had to be short and why He sent us the Holy Spirit. God gave us choices, and if you want a life of choice, your choices must have consequences.
People who do not believe in Christ, or do not believe in heaven, often imagine that we can force people into heaven. That is not how it works. I am a sinner, you are a sinner, and God does not sin. I can only be an example. I can only love God unconditionally and, by extension, love you unconditionally, even when you harm me, understanding that many demons may possess your soul, which requires empathy rather than judgment.
“Love thy neighbor as thyself” does not mean you judge another person. It places the responsibility on you and your relationship with God. I cannot tell you how to live. If we are part of Christ’s family, we should consciously know what God wants from us. It is between your soul and God, not someone else.
Closing Reflection
Government or any established power structure is not God and does not speak for God. In closing, individuals who claim Christ is not God should ask themselves who gave them freedom of speech, freedom of expression, property rights, innovation, and permission to think outside the box. Without the Holy Spirit taught to us by Christ, the entire planet exists under censorship regimes. Even in Israel today, censorship is still advocated. Let that settle before rejecting the Trinity.
Consider making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior today.
