Canadian Democracy in Crisis: Former Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu crosses floor to Liberals (Following The Money) – April 8, 2026

Posted on April 8, 2026April 8, 2026 by RichInWriters

So it’s not a secret that on this blog we support the People’s Party of Canada, so as you’re reading this post, that’s where the neutral tone comes from. With that said, if I voted for the Conservative Party of Canada or the Liberals, I wouldn’t want these floor crossers from these corrupt Conservatives joining what we consider the corrupt Liberal Party of Canada.

Michael Ma, for example, is clearly a spy for the Chinese Communist Party. He was a Conservative who was clearly biding his time to join Mark Carney, as the Chinese Communist Party clearly stacked the deck in their favor after another one of their spies, Liberal Member of Parliament Paul Chiang, told an audience that his Conservative opponent (not Michael Ma) should be turned over to Chinese authorities to claim a bounty.

So Michael Ma popped up out of nowhere, and Canada’s democratic system is not like the U.S., where voters vote directly for someone like Donald Trump. Canadians tend to not know nor care who their Member of Parliament is; they vote for these people imagining that they’re voting for the Liberals, Conservatives, Bloc Québécois, or NDP.

So this shows that Conservatives have a screening problem. But worse than that, because Mark Carney is about to secure a majority, you can see that money and dollar signs are flashing, and so you’ll have sellouts like Marilyn Gladu doing what’s in her best interests.

With that said, we support the People’s Party of Canada for this exact reason. The Conservative Party of Canada are advocates for supply management, which is not a socialist arrangement, it is actually a communist arrangement. Supply management is the only reason Donald Trump, as of the date I’m writing this, has leverage over Canada in trade.

Yes, America absolutely subsidizes its farmers, Donald Trump often brags about it, but that’s not a competitive advantage; that’s actually a disadvantage for the United States because when you’re subsidized, there’s more government oversight.

“Don’t poison your customers” should be the main regulation in farming, but Canada has supply management and has implemented an industrial carbon tax. This has consumer price inflation written all over it. Because if you’re banning imports, which is the concept behind supply management, and Mark Carney is adding an additional carbon tax on consumers, that’s a compounding tax. And current Prime Minister Mark Carney is still basically declaring war on Canadian fossil fuels, so attracting capital is still very difficult in Canada.

Carney is borrowing money to support his agenda, so similar to Justin Trudeau, Mark Carney’s economy is cash-flow negative. So the only people set to gain from Mark Carney are those working for the government, who have pay tied to inflation.

Those of you curious to know the numbers:

  • Base Salary (All MPs): As of April 1, 2026, the basic annual salary (sessional indemnity) for all MPs, regardless of party, is approximately $217,700.
  • Government Bonus (Cabinet/Ministers): Liberal MPs appointed to Cabinet (Ministers) receive an additional stipend, bringing their annual salary to approximately $321,300.
  • Opposition Leaders: The Leader of the Official Opposition (Conservative) is paid a top-up equal to a Cabinet Minister, resulting in a salary of about $321,300. However, other Conservative MPs (critics) do not receive extra pay.
  • Prime Minister: The Prime Minister earns the highest salary, estimated at roughly $435,400 in 2026.

In summary: If the Liberals win, their MPs get more money only if they are appointed as Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, or into other leadership roles that come with a salary top-up. Regular MPs on both sides make the same base salary.

So, if you haven’t been paying attention, for example, Michael Ma questioned the existence of forced labour in China during a March 2026 parliamentary committee meeting. The real question you should ask is why he was in that meeting to begin with, he’s a recent defector, so clearly there was an agenda there, meaning he was put in that position by Mark Carney for a specific reason.

And when you read Marilyn Gladu’s comments, it looks like she crossed the floor for a specific reason. This is the problem when you have a person like Mark Carney, who has serious conflicts of interest, running the country.

Because of his ties to Brookfield, we have no idea what’s being offered on the back end. Brookfield, by the way, even after China took over Hong Kong, invested more in mainland China. Some will argue that Michael Ma is from Hong Kong, and I remind you that when China took over Hong Kong, there were a lot of Hong Kongers already loyal to the Chinese Communist Party.

If you’re a Christian, this is what happens when you live in a nation abandoning Christ. On this blog, we’ve been writing about the rising atheist numbers in Canada for a while now. No Christian foundation equates to a different moral framework.

Also, as Protestants, this is the problem we’ve had with Catholics. As Protestants, we’re supposed to read the Bible. Catholics have a different approach, they tend to believe that we need an expert to interpret the word of God for us. Meaning that if, let’s say, a Pope is a communist, which to a Christian means they believe in theft—well then that’s your “godly expert.”

So as Christians, this is your call to come home to Christ and read your Bible instead of allowing others to interpret it for you. Once theft is an accepted practice in any society, it’s headed for collapse. Once you accept theft as the norm, what happens next is that it becomes an IQ battle,  a race to the bottom. Canada is killing its ability to manufacture anything and is basically positioning itself to be a vassal state for either China or America.

If you ask me, Donald Trump has pushed American politics back to the center, meaning it would not surprise me if this far-left fad in the United States dies a rapid death. And what that means for Canada and its relationship with the United States is that it becomes static and hostile, in the sense that Republicans will be open about putting regulations on Canada, whereas Democrats will make rules without even announcing them.

Canada being a vassal state for China will always result in China getting the better end of the deal. That’s why we’re saying there’s a democracy crisis in Canada, because it looks to me like Mark Carney’s only objective is to enrich a small number of people who embrace his agenda.

Consider making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior today.
