The Bell Curve and the Easy Answer Problem. People often appeal to IQ and genetics as an “easy pill”—a shortcut explanation for complex social problems. But this can be a lazy way to dismiss personal and cultural responsibility, especially when it comes to poverty, violence, and governance. Yes, patterns exist. But patterns don’t equal prophecy. A high crime rate in one community doesn’t justify collective condemnation, just as a high IQ doesn’t justify collective pride. What’s missing from most of these conversations is Christ-centered transformation.
