B.C.’s independent energy watchdog confirms that it won’t be able to investigate the role of provincial taxes on high gasoline prices – June 4, 2019,
So, here’s the thing with the modern day Leftists, prior to the expansion of the modern day Welfare State, Leftists used to be fiscally responsible, balancing the budget used to be a real thing that Leftists did, the welfare state for he left used to include the present and the future, however, something happened in Canada, that caused Leftists to lose their way, what is that you ask? Canadian voters granted them almost everything they asked for and therefore, the Leftist Politicians, concluded that fiscal responsibly for future generations wasn’t important and deficits didn’t matter. So what’s been happening ever since this political decision has been made is Leftist in Canada have been jumping on any and every globalist tax scheme they can find.
The welfare state is a form of government in which the state protects and promotes the economic and social well-being of the citizens, based upon the principles of equal opportunity, equitable distribution of wealth, and public responsibility for citizens unable to avail themselves of the minimal provisions for a good life. Sociologist T. H. Marshall described the modern welfare state as a distinctive combination of democracy, welfare, and capitalism.
Where do Carbon taxes go exactly? Well, the tax on carbon is used to stop people and businesses from polluting, which actually means it’s preventing businesses from being productive, it’s important to understand that the carbon taxes are being used to outsource jobs, the solutions to renewable energy aren’t being created in Canada, they’re being made outside of Canada, taxing carbon makes it more expensive to find a solution in Canada, so as an example, most of the Solar Panels are made in China and there’s no infrastructure being made for renewable energies in Canada, so the Carbon taxes in many respects aren’t helping Canadians domestic energy needs at least for the long term.
This, of course, is common sense if you understand the market, basic math, and economics, but if you’re a short term thinker whether you’re on the political Left or Right, the Carbon tax, which is a regressive tax is going to help to implode our already dwindling manufacturing sectors. With that said I brought up the Leftist, namely the NDP government because they prefer many of their redistribution schemes be shrouded in secrecy, primarily because most of these Carbon and other regressive taxes go to administration fees and other fees which grow the size of government as well as pay particular “private” groups money to quote on quote “solve” this climate change problem.
ICBC as an example is a Crown Corporation that continues to grow and grow, there’s no incentive to shrink it or lower costs on B.C drivers paying for insurance because there’s no incentive to do so. ICBC is a Crown Corporation which is a State Owned Enterprise whose basis for existence is to assure that it’s employees get the best possible job security and if that comes at the expense of B.C drivers, so be it, which is the same attitude that goes into the inflated Gas Prices in B.C. There are no market fundamentals going on at The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC)? It’s a state-owned arrangement, carbon taxes are a State controlled redistribution regressive scheme, that will take as much as the people are willing to give.
Now, if you know anything about the modern day Left in Canada, they play these games where they want to make it seem like they care about the consumers getting price gouged, when in fact they’re only playing Politics, when Alberta and B.C had their Pipeline fiasco, on the surface, Rachel Notley, Justin Trudeau and John Horgan all tried to make it appear like they were doing something, but all they did was stall and try to make it seem like the price gouging came from the Private Sector. It’s nearing election time and if you read the article below, the basis of the article revolves around the Liberals and the NDP deflecting blame.
In B.C I tend to avoid diving into their politics because next to Quebec British Colombia is probably one of Canada’s most Left-leaning political Provinces and quite frankly they’re going to have to learn things the hard way. Geographically B.C and Quebec should be the two richest places in Canada, but they’re not and the reason they’re not is that both provinces have a huge government and the attitudes in those 2 provinces, for the most part, is that they have the moral high ground. It’s hard to debate people hell-bent on believing that their way is the only way, so let them learn the hard way.
