Big Tech Oligarchs Flex their muscles: Facebook allows Ukraine war posts urging violence against Russians – March 11, 2022,
So, yeah, I was reading an article and I’m still having a hard time processing what I read.
1. Meta will temporarily allow calls for violence against invading Russians. According to internal emails obtained by Reuters, Instagram and Facebook users in some countries will be permitted to call for violence against Russians, Russian soldiers, and political figures, in the context of the invasion of Ukraine.
- In light of the country’s invasion of Ukraine, users in countries including Russia, Ukraine, and Poland will be allowed to call for death to Russian President Vladimir Putin or Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
- Posts espousing the presidents’ death will be allowed unless they include other targets or have indicators of credibility, such as the location or method, Reuters reported.
- The decision marks a temporary change to Meta’s hate-speech policy, which traditionally has barred “threats of violence and other content that has the potential to silence others or cause harm.”

When I read the above it sounds straightforward, but again, “violence against Russians”. How does one process that? How much censoring has Meta Platforms, Inc., been engaging in. I’ll be honest with the reader, I haven’t logged into Facebook in over 2 years, the last time I tried to log in not only did I not remember my password, I couldn’t even pass their new account recovery process.
Because of Facebook’s stance on a host of issues, they’re not worth my time, but they’re certainly flexing their muscles with this move. I don’t like blanket statements, because most people only read the headlines. I can understand death to Putin, or violence against Putin, but “violence against Russians?”, sorry I can’t go there.
Interesting times ahead!
