Canada no longer an important player in trade relations with the United States – September 25, 2018,
The United States has turned its attention to China and it appears U.S President Donald Trump seems to have left Canada in his rearview mirror basically leaving the Canada NAFTA problem for Congress to handle. Trump has delivered on his promises to the people who voted him in and I’m again going to warn Canadians that, there’s a good chance the Democrats will embrace Trump’s trading tactics. Trump’s trading tactics would bring in much need revenue for democratic social justice programs.
The truth of the matter remains that the Democrats and the Left-leaning media in the United States hasn’t talked about trade with Canada that often. Instead, choosing to focus their attention on Former White House Staff Secretary Brett Kavanaugh. Below is a video from Fox, notice the small snippet Canada received and the amount of attention and focus that was put on trade with China.
I tod Canadians over and over again, initially, Trump’s assumption was that Canada would have been onboard with his Mexico initiative, I also think Trump assumed early on that Canada would be willing to budge on certain issues regarding the North American Free Trade Agreement, unfortunately Canada hasn’t budged on anything, this really hasn’t been a trade negotiation it’s been more about Canada using every tool at it’s disposal to make the U.S President look like a moron.
Well, things are going just as I expected them to go which is Trump is simply going to ignore Canada and what I think is going to happen is regardless of what happens in Congress, regardless of what happens with NAFTA, American’s are going to start hitting Canadian made goods with tariffs. My personal belief is that this tit-for-tat tariff is going to happen between Canada and America for the foreseeable future unless Canada concedes.
I don’t like to write posts without writing about solutions, my solution, my easy solution to Donald Trump would have been to match every regulation he cut and also cut taxes to match the trump tax cuts. This would have neutralized Trump entirely, I personally would not have put tariffs on the U.S made products coming into Canada.
I would have waited for Congress, because had Canada not retaliated we would have had the upper hand in trade talks, but now Trump can go to Congress and say Canada has supply management, the U.S doesn’t have supply management how does Congress suggest we handle this problem as our U.S farmers are being hurt by this. Now Congress in this instance can choose the Canadian side, but that will only motivate the U.S voters to embrace Trump more.
Again, let me point out that the Democrats have been silent on trade, barely a peep has come from them, the Democrats focus so far has been in recent times of disgracing Former White House Staff Secretary Brett Kavanaugh. Prior to this, the Democrat focus was on smear campaigns to have President Trump impeached. The reason the Democrats have abstained from economic issues is that Trump’s economic policies are resonating with American voters. Even the socialist democrats acknowledge Trump’s economic excellence. This should be worrying to Canadians, however, it seems like a lot of Canadians don’t care, so we’ll see how this thing goes.
Interesting times ahead.
