Canada to Trump: No NAFTA deal with tariffs – June 10, 2018

I was reading a pretty interesting post this morning and what stood out about the post is how entitled big businesses are in Canada. I don’t even think they realize how they sound. They’ve been living in a bubble for so long they feel entitled. You can read this article in full by clicking the link below:

Personally, I prefer reading financial articles written by people in the finance sector because people in finances have to filter and usually have little reason to be biased as they’re forced to work under financial guidelines/regulations created by the government.

One of the most despicable things I’ve read in the article mentioned above came from Pierre Lampron, the president of Dairy Farmers of Canada who stated the following:

“President Trump is targeting the dairy sector because he wants to dump U.S. dairy into Canada,” Lampron told The Canadian Press, adding that Canada imports five times more dairy from the U.S. than it exports.

“President Trump wants nothing less than wiping out Canadian dairy farming.”

This is basically an admission that Canadian dairy farmers are not competitive with their U.S counterparts. When I write about entitlements and the Canadian economy needing a crash, this is exactly what I mean. There are times when I recommend not talking, not making any statement, because when you’re a protectionist and you’ve been raised to think like a Marxist as you age you don’t even realize how crazy you sound.

What Pierre Lampron is actually admitting is that without the Canadian government Canadian farmers would cease to exist, which is only true if you’re a believer in Socialism. If Farming becomes competitive, why don’t you compete back? If American companies are adding ingredients that consumers like why don’t you offer similar ingredients or better ingredients? If your business can’t compete with American businesses in Canada, why would you want to be part of NAFTA in the first place?

This is what’s so weird about all of this, you can see the emotional reactions of Canadian politicians and business people to Trumps Tariffs. If this is America’s elected president and you don’t like the changes he’s making withdraw from NAFTA. That is unless you have more to lose than to gain from withdrawing? If this is the reality that by withdrawing you’re going to lose than simply stop talking, the more people like Pierre Lampron keep talking the more they’re digging their own graves.

Basically, Pierre Lampron is admitting America poses a National Security threat to Canadian dairy farmers. This was Trump’s argument regarding Steel. Canadians better wake up and stop defending Mexico because what I’m seeing is Trump playing chess and Canadians playing Checkers. If Canada, wants to play this game there best bet, is to wait things out, prolong negotiations, stall negotiations, because this is clearly a battle they won’t win as long as Trump is President of the United States.

However, if Trump is no longer president well maybe this all goes away, by remaining quiet, to those that don’t understand supply management you look like the victim, but by fighting back, the details get increasingly exposed which ultimately leads to a change in public perception especially in the U.S which equates to Trump and most importantly his POLICIES getting more traction. If Trump’s policies become the norm for presidents well Canadian dairy farmers are screwed now and into the future.

Interesting times ahead.
