Canada’s Economy Needs Tougher Coronavirus Shutdowns To Reopen: CIBC’s chief economist, Avery Shenfeld, wants Canada to be more like Japan and South Korea which have much tougher IMMIGRATION policies – October 18, 2020,
If you want open borders, it’s important to understand why the spread of Coronavirus will never stop. The reason why coronavirus is here to stay is because of our immigration policy, that’s the whole reason why certain countries like Sweden as example bought into herd immunity.
In the article below, CIBC Bankster and chief economist, Avery Shenfeld stated the following:
“Japan had a breakout (originating in) bars. The difference is they got the case numbers to such a low level … they could keep track of all those people,” he told HuffPost Canada.

Japan doesn’t have open borders, a Nigerian escaping America can’t simply walk or drive to the Japanese or Korean border demanding welfare from the Japanese or Korean government. Japan isn’t going to let people from mainland China fly into Japan. In Canada when people move around our country all our governments can do is ask them nicely to stay indoors and quarantine for 15 days, but people don’t have to listen to the government.
Canada is a free country, so what CIBC Bankster and chief economist Avery Shenfeld is actually stating is that Canada should impose some sort of totalitarian rule. This again is why I don’t like how Canadian Leftist presents information. There’s not a one size fits all approach to anything.
You can’t have your cake and eat it too, the whole purpose of a society based on INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS is that individuals should decide their risk level. Because if Canadians wants this open borders Justin Trudeau socialist utopia, understand that Coronavirus is NEVER going away EVER.
Sweden calculated ahead of time the pros and cons to a lockdown, they took a robust approach and realized that Coronavirus wasn’t as deadly as they first assumed. Sweden has open borders and they also have a lot of economic migrants that need welfare. If the Swedish private sector doesn’t generate the welfare Sweden needs to maintain it’s economy, it’s game over for them.
The same dynamic exists in Canada that exists in Sweden, but I think because we have one of the worlds reserve currencies and we haven’t had a serious economic crash since the 1980s that we assume that no matter how bad the policies of the Canadian government, that Canadian economy will be alright, well, we’ll just have to wait and see how things turn out.
What I will say is that although a lockdown will benefit CIBC because after all the government is paying Canadians to service their debts, it could have dire economic and social consequences in the future.
