Canada’s housing problems start with RENT CONTROLS, which is a municipal problem; in the 1990s, CMHC and the Canadian Federal government in general went on a mission to make more Canadians homeowners.
This mission clearly failed, but because the FEDERAL government got involved in Local JURISDICTIONS, fewer rental apartments were being built. You also have to factor in far-left activist judges, who make most Canadians not want to be landlords.
There actually is NOT a housing shortage in Canada; there’s a LANDLORD shortage. I’m not a fan of Trudeau’s immigration policies, but that’s not the problem, 10 people can stay in a two-bedroom apartment for example, but it’s illegal.
If you can live in a tent or sleep on the street, why can’t share a small living quarters? Because it’s illegal, but let’s not confuse that with a housing shortage because if you do, then you’ll imagine that building more housing will fix the problem.
The problem is the EXISTING laws. Canada has been a Left Wing country for a long time; the problem is… Wait for it; Canadians made the mistake of voting for the worst Prime Minister for the ECONOMY in the history of the nation.
Left Wingers tend to fight for PRICE CONTROL mechanisms, like Rent controls, minimum wages and price controls on food etc. The problem with doing this is that it requires people with an above-average IQ to comprehend how not to screw up.
How does Canada fix the housing crisis? The solution is simple: Austerity! However, it typically takes DECADES before people are willing to shrink and cut government.
