Quebec, of course, already enjoys certain autonomous privileges. But Quebec’s dependence on transfer payments and socialist policies undermines its credibility. A province that borrows to fund bloated services cannot claim true independence. Worse, it often lobbies for more federal money, which only tightens Ottawa’s grip.
