More and more companies have monopoly power over workers’ wages. That’s killing the economy.
This is in response to an interesting article I read written by Suresh Naidu, Eric Posner, and Glen Weyl Apr 6, 2018 which can be found by going here:https://www.vox.com/the-big-idea/2018/4/6/17204808/wages-employers-workers-monopsony-growth-stagnation-inequality
First and foremost allow me the right to say that on the political front lean more to the “right” side of the argument. I actually still don’t consider myself a conservative or Libertarian but because more and more people are taking these extreme leftist positions it appears that beliefs are leaning towards the conservatives no a days.
This idea that workers don’t have CHOICES has got to stop. Unions are the reason wages are suppressed in the first place. Unions suppress competition, unions create entitled workers, unions are preventing individuals from being able to fight for their rights. One of the reasons I believe so many Lawyers don’t have jobs are because of Unions. If an employee is wronged in 2018 that employee can sue, also if employees are wronged in mass if wages weren’t so high to begin with there would be more competition vying for that employees labour. What’s the downside to my argument you ask?
The downside to my argument is some people would make less money than they’re making now, but the way people are today is they would simply quit that job and maybe I don’t know… pursue the American dream and eventually work for themselves. WE HAVE THE INTERNET NOW! why are these leftist trying shovel people into becoming wage slaves. This is pure idiocracy, every student and person I talk too wants freedom and more money. Well no matter how you slice there will be a cap on your earnings the moment you accept wage slave servitude. That’s how it works folks and the only way for a union to be effective is if the union does what they do in New York and Detroit which is put a monopoly on an entire industry so the barrier to entry is higher thus limiting the competition. Guess what happens when you limit competition?
When you limit competition wages get stagnant. Do you know why wages get stagnant because of things like 401K’s and people retiring off of unearned income. So my question to these people who think unionized workers should get paid more? Where is this money going to come from? How are you going to guarantee that the unionized companies will not lose any money one day? If the unionized company loses money and goes bankrupt are you guys (Suresh Naidu, Eric Posner, and Glen Weyl) going to pay those laid off unionized workers salaries? If not, what is your solution for laid off unionized workers? Should the government pay for unionized workers? If the government has to pay for out of work unionized workers what should stop people from working just enough hours to qualify for a hand out from the government? If you believe every individual should share the same morals do you think you the government should have the right to force people to have morals. If not why shouldn’t people wit on the government for another hand out?
Competition is what makes the world go around for every action there’s a reaction, an industry can’t ask for protection and not expect a reaction from the free market. In a free market the job market operates the same way sports leagues like the NBA operate. The best and brightest make the most money. what prevents this from happening to low skilled workers are the unions, unions take individual rights away and apply them to the group, what this means under a union agreement is that the hardworking unionized workers pay for the lazy, this also means that tenure comes into question.
Teachers unions are a perfect example of tenure, tenure means a unionized individual just has to do enough to get paid, so guess what most tenured employees do… Just enough, in a free market atmosphere tenure means nothing, not only that it would be in the employees best interest to work hard and in the employers best interests to pay the hard working employee more money because in a free market a hard working employee will simply leave. Hard work, good work is hard to find ask any employer if this is true.
The reason why unionized employees tend not to get pay raises bis because with the higher pay they’re not going to work any harder and guess what I don’t blame the unionized employee because that’s why they’re paying their union dues for. But guess who else I don’t blame, I don’t blame the employers because in order for this arrangement to work employers have to get creative and hire more people to find ways to squeeze money out of consumers. All this stuff leads to inflation which screws over everybody in the end.
The free market is not perfect but I’d rather be free than be a wage slave and if these newage leftists understood the concept of FREEDOM they’d quit lying to people. There are pros and cons to any agreement. Wake up people!
