David Clegg of the Ontario teachers’ union wastes money on polluting plane advertising that could have been used for the Children – June 24, 2016,
Yeah, so, this is basically why I’m against public sector unions, unions, in my opinion, should be regulated to the Private sector, the for-profit sector. Personally, I’m against collectivism, I’m not a fan of collective bargaining but I believe in the Private Sector employees have a right to collectively bargain. In the public sector, however, I’m not a fan of it, because I mean let’s be serious here, is this not a waste of money? Could this money that David Clegg, president of the York Region local of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario spent to garner a few laughs and some publicity not been better spent on the school children.
There’s this ideology from the public sector workers that don’t respect the tax dollars they receive, this arrogance in many of them is felt by the public how often avoid going to any government office. This entitlement comes from their perceived job security that those of us in the private sector don’t have. The public sector unions fight so that the people they represent get as much money as possible, in case you didn’t know, this is the main reason why schools in Ontario are under-funded. I get it, many of you think that our schools are underfunded because the government is a bunch of cheap bastards, but no, the reality is every time the government gives public schools more, the Ontario school boards give themselves a pay raise.
Now, we’re in a digital age, the teachers’ unions could easily write some articles or go on some radio shows explaining their grievances, the problem is if they do this the threat is the actual backlash they’ll get from the public. Most people in Ontario, in Canada, tolerate public sector employees, because they genuinely stay out of the spotlight, but if they start making their presence felt, similar to what Canada Post did around Christmas 2018, well they threaten to have their monopoly interrupted as people start to analyze and critique their spending habits just a little bit more.
Instead of spending the money on the York Region Elementary students, David Clegg thought the money was better spent on polluting plane, public sector unions get their money via taxpayers, just so people remember, union dues come out of public sector teachers paychecks which come from the taxpayers. Now had this been a Private sector union I couldn’t frame this article this way, but again, this is the public sector and this was clearly a political statement.
