Donald Trump Aims To Wipe Out Canadian Dairy Industry, Lobby Group Says – June 12, 2018
Reading these articles are jaw-dropping, the emotions being display by entitled Big Farms in Canada is a telling. Trump has been talking about reciprocal trade for more than a year now and instead of Canadian farmers remaining silent while details are either hammered out or not hammered out they continue to insert foot in mouth. If Canadian dairy farmers are reliant on the U.S. As an example consider reading the post below click the link below and read that post, this will give you more details than Canadian farmers need to release.

The farmer states the following:
Trump accused Canada of tariffs as high as 270 per cent; Kamps says that’s true, but it’s not the whole story.
“Canada allows 10 per cent and the United States conversely only allows three per cent in without tariffs,” said Kamps. “So Trump does kind of talk out of both sides of his mouth.”
Canada’s dairy industry is tightly controlled with a quota system and restricted imports. The government levies a tariff of 270 per cent on milk, 245 per cent on cheese and 298 per cent on butter in an effort to keep imports out and tightly control supply.
Now any Canadian with half brain would ask, well which country has more people? America has 325.7 million people as of 2017, Canada has 36.29 million as of 2016
American Population = 325, 700, 000/3% =9, 771, 000
Canadian Population = 36, 290, 000/10% =3, 629, 000a difference of 6,142,000 which favors Canada
I just wish Canadian farmers would stop talking, every word uttered in that article is an admission of guilt. Another portion is written that’s I don’t even think the Lobbyist noticed is he said
“Kamps said the U.S phased out a system similar to Canada’s in the 1980s “
he then says:
“Under the Canadian system, said Kamps, dairy farmers are paid “a fair price” set each year by the Canadian dairy commission. It also protects against the dumping of milk or running short on supplies.”
Canadian big farmers if this is your argument, please just stop, just stop talking to the media, stop doing interviews, just stop. The only reason this method is working for you is that we have the U.S as our trading partners, the reason Americans dumped their Supply management (click here for Supply management explanation) system was that there was too much government intervention.
Furthermore, this again shows why Canada DOESN’T NOT NEED NAFTA, Because if Trump had it his way he’d have a Bilateral deal with Canada, which is what this entire issue revolves around. What this means is that you can still own the Canadian market if that’s what Canadians want but any deal you have with America would have to be renegotiated, so if your problem with this is that you feel entitled to the American market while American companies get stuck with a quota system here, well you should work that out as entity with the U.S.
I’ve been saying this for years, that in Canada we’ve become so government dependent that many of us don’t even understand the free market anymore.
The more Canadian farmers talk like this the more I advise them to pray and hope Americans simply vote out Donald Trump. The more Canadian farmers talk the more this information gets leaked to the American media, which ultimately equates to the Democrats potentially incorporating this issue into their platform, which is a double whammy because now you’ll have this problem regardless of the American politician in power.
I personally do not like to tell individuals what to do, but there really is no reason for Canadian dairy farmer lobbyist to talk to the media. Canadians have been supporting you, I personally disagree with the supply management system. “dairy farmers are paid “a fair price” set each year by the Canadian dairy commission” equals price fixing and the only way to justify price fixing when you have a North American Free Trade Agreement is by saying this is a national security issue. Free trade means American farmers should be able to freely sell their product in Canada if both countries have different laws governing dairy than why can’t America renegotiate their end?
Although the formation of the current Canadian Supply management system came into effect 1995, The North American Free Trade Agreement came into force on January 1, 1994. The world is an unfair place, the free market determines what fair is, if you’re receiving government PROTECTIONS, SIMPLY STOP TALKING!. If you want protection from the Canadian government and its people, the First thing you have to comprehend is that other Canadian business might start asking for similar protections from competition as well.
Secondly, NAFTA might not be in your best interests either, thirdly what about the small family farms in Canada, why aren’t they allowed to get similar percentages as the big farmers, are you admitting that because of your farm size you’re entitled to a larger slice of the economic pie, now and into infinity? Could it be that this was the reason Americans dumped their supply management system? Again, my advice to these big farms in Canada is to simply stop talking so much.

As many Canadians know as interest rates rise we also of a huge debt crisis heading our way. I advise Canadian politicians to pick their battles carefully.
Interesting times ahead.
