Doug Ford Clashes With Protesting Students in the legislature, OSAP Protesters Thrown Out Of Queen’s Park – February 20, 2019,
If like me, you have Conservative economic views, you should pay close attention to what’s happening with Doug Ford in Ontario. The Conservative party of Canada didn’t become Progressive overnight, it was a gradual progression and the reason the modern day Conservative party of Canada has so many Corporatists and Socialist ideas blended into their Conservatism revolves around push backs from individuals that have gotten used to using taxpayer dollars to Government initiatives that are not only inefficiently run but which also are damaging to the very fabric of our democracy.
Ever since the creation of teachers unions, the Public education system not only in Ontario but almost all over Canada has been on a steep decline. Teachers Unions consume a lot of money and everytime more money is afforded to them each individual teacher wants a pay raise, although in the individual teachers mind it may be a mere increase of few dollars more spent by the government, because the teachers aren’t manufacturing selling anything of monetary value it becomes a net loss on the backs of taxpayers, on the Municipal level you can only do so much with Property taxes and being that the Public Education System isn’t really leaving lasting memories to the students they serve most graduates of public schools don’t voluntarily give back anything to any of the public schools they attended.
Now, what this does, unfortunately, is it creates unreal expectations for High School students entering college. The price for college only goes up because of OSAP. I often write about CMHC, sure Canada is a great place to live, but the only reason real estate prices have reached $1 million+ dollars for downtown Toronto 1700 square foot home is because of the CMHC insuring mortgages for particular individuals and corporate entities. The CMHC similar to OSAP is a government assistance program.
In order to understand The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) you first need to grasp that When students apply for OSAP, it is determined how much money they’ll receive by comparing their tuition fees and living expenses with the amount the student and their family are expected to pay. Now, if you’re reading this, it should be known that because of a lot of the other Government programs the cost of living all over Ontario has exploded and there’s a lot of Adult Lobby groups already fighting for government subsidies and government handouts. Being that Canadians aren’t ready to dump these socialist experiments Doug Ford has to find creative ways to shrink the size of Teachers Unions.
Personally, I’d rather OSAP be abolished, I’m so happy I didn’t qualify for OSAP, I remember applying and being turned down about 5 times because I had been working since I was 15, actually, I lied to my first employer about my age so I could get the job, I even lied to my parents about attending after-school programs. I hated public schools and the area of Toronto where I lived made getting into the skilled trades very complicated by my standards, so I started working and when it came time for me apply for OSAP apparently I was making too much money (which I wasn’t) but based on how they calculate OSAP and their qualification process I who lived in a rooming house at the time apparently didn’t qualify.
In the end, it worked out great for me because now most of my friends who did qualify for OSAP are still in debt to them. Quite frankly, I think Doug Ford is doing those kids a favor but I can’t blame those kids for assuming that Doug Ford is not on their side. Because as a child I remember wanting to be able to attend college with my friends. The best way to deal with this problem is to end OSAP, but the likelihood of that happening isn’t realistic, so, for now, I guess Doug Ford can focus on picking winners and losers.
In prior posts, I’d try to justify certain actions of Conservative Politicians, but I’m not doing that anymore. I think OSAP should be abolished if private lenders aren’t willing to fund these students college careers than I think those students should reconsider what college courses their taking. I’ve been looking at some of the college courses OSAP funds and these classes won’t lead to these students getting a job. With OSAP as it stands now, you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t. I’ll be voting for the People’s Party of Canada until they give a reason not too.
Because Doug Ford doesn’t have the heart to tell all sides the truth, he’ll be stuck with choosing winners and losers. My truth is abolishing OSAP and leave it lending to the private sector. I read about all these people talking about defunding the CBC, it’s time we defund a lot more. If the private Sector funds education, chances are they’re not going to give loans to people studying Gender Studies or some other social justice program that’s going to make a lot of these students less employable and cost taxpayers an untold amount of money.
If education is really free, and the government can simply print money to fund it, let’s stop charging people taxes for it. I pay property taxes, I know where most of the money goes. I’m tired of this nonsense, if Canadians don’t wake up soon, there’s going to be an economic collapse, not a crash and collapse and the beautiful country we’ve built will have to undergo massive economic changes.
