Many of us in Ontario appreciate the imperfect Doug Ford government because he’s given hope to those of us who were strangled by regulations via prior Left Wing Liberal governments. As Ontarians, we also have to bring up the stupidity of the PC Mike Harris government, who basically sold of the ETR407 for basically nothing.
We all know Mike Harris was trying to make cuts to the government. However, Mike Harris should have done what Doug Ford was doing, which is SLICING OPERATIONAL costs, instead of simply trying to balance the budget.
The problem with cuts to government, however, is all the EXISTING incompetent government monopolies and PRICE CONTROLS that, for example, stifled the growth of Canada’s DOMESTIC recycling capabilities.
A few years back I believe it was Canada’s STATE RUN broadcaster brought attention regarding all the Canadian garbage being shipped overseas, after the Philippine government of that time denied Canadian garbage, that was being dumped into their country.
The Philippines wanted specific types of garbage that they could use to RECYCLE and assist with their growing manufacturers. Instead, Canada kept sending them things like soiled baby diapers and other garbage that Canada should be capable of disposing of domestically.
One of the reasons Canada’s garbage and recycling is not SORTED efficiently is because there’s no PRIVATE SECTOR economic incentive to do it. Canadian Left Wing price controls, which often are championed by Conservative governments, have destroyed the DOMESTIC pricing mechanisms all over Canada.
So, the private recycling industry in Ontario is non-existent, and given the existing Liquor monopoly and the low financial IQ of the average Canadian, it’s unlikely that a private COMPETITIVE waste management system can ever exist in Canada.
You see, a lot of the garbage we consume could be used for fuel and building NEW things domestically. However, because Canadians continue to vote for LEFT WING governance, it doesn’t even make sense to take the risk of getting into private sector garbage collection, as the operational costs, especially with Trudeau’s carbon tax, would destroy your waste management business before it gets started.
Waste management also revolves around having DOMESTIC businesses to sell recycled parts to. Similar to a car junkyard, if there’s no local or National demand for the garbage that Canadians dispose of and there are excessive regulations on how to dispose of garbage, then you get stuck with a situation in which the government starts to OUTSOURCE waste management to entities that are looking for foreign buyers of Canada’s garbage, which is increasingly being imported by China.
Why does this matter? If most of what we consume is made from a foreign source, there will be fewer Canadian industries that use it. So you can see the compounding effect of these stupid Left Wing policies, now creating problems for Doug Ford, who now has SOME members of the private sector saying because PROPERTY values are artificially high, where do we put these alcohol bottles that are magnets bad smells, flies and a lack of space?
It’s a fair argument, and it’s one of those things that, in my opinion, will work themselves out. Truth be told, I’m sure private “alcohol bottle removal” companies would love to alleviate private businesses of this problem for a fee.
So, I do see an easy cure for this problem. However, UNNECESSARY government monopolies that like to justify their existence via government regulations might make it difficult for SOLUTIONS to germinate. This is a story I have to monitor.
The solution is there, but the Big government that existed prior to Doug Ford’s arrival still has their Left-Wing monopolistic power and can continue their Left-Wing mission to destroy Canada’s PRIVATE manufacturing industry in their hopes of turning Canada into a pathetic SERVICE SECTOR economy.
