ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance – Is It here to stay, or is it another passing FAD? (Dividend Investing) – April 16, 2022
I spent quite a few dollars sent to me via my dividends buying green companies, which if I’m, to be honest, I expect to fail. If left alone will Capitalism destroy the earth? I don’t think it will, in fact, the evidence shows that socialism and Communism will destroy the world if left alone. Communist China remains unapologetic about its pollution, The Communist Chinese government also doesn’t care much for its society and governance that benefit their people, Communist China does what it wants to do when it wants to do it.
So when we start talking about this ESG movement it’s subjective, based on your politics. Currently, it appears a larger chunk of the world, likes the idea of a group of individuals determining the future of humanity, will this be the absolute normal moving forward? I don’t know, but it appears unlikely, this reminds me of a declining empire because the ESG movement seeks to put investors under this commune umbrella, and this has never worked, because innovation doesn’t exist in a straight line and in order to progress, toes will be stepped on.
Is ESG a passing fad? Well, depends on what you consider passing fad, ESG could very well be here for the next decade, the only way I see ESG disappearing is if secessions and emigrations of the wealthy start to happen more frequently. Let’s be clear, governments and protestors don’t build anything, they protest and look for scapegoats. So once it becomes obvious that the private sector and innovations are disinterested in incompetent thinking, there really is nothing governments can do about it except for adjust. Now the people who are die-hard ESG fans, they will go don with ship.
So you’d be wise to take a flexible approach to ESG, because it’s going to be here for a while!
Environmental, social, and corporate governance is an approach to evaluating the extent to which a corporation works on behalf of social goals that go beyond the role of a corporation to maximize profits on behalf of the corporation’s shareholders.
