Fantastic article by Jonathan Kay about Leftist Identity politics in Canada – My theory is that Canada’s Political Left has no other option, Google replaced the library – September 22, 2020,
When I was growing up, it was very hard to combat Leftism, primarily because your knowledge revolved around your ability to memorize your political theories. Fact-checking was very hard prior to Google and furthermore a lot of people even way back when I was growing up hated to read books.
So the Leftists could do political things without any checks and balances. Sure the Right-wing press could combat bad ideas, but the Leftists had free reign over the economy. A lot of Leftists ended up in public education and the government.
People on the political right prefer the private sector, however, the public sector writes the laws, and just being honest, a lot of Conservatives go by the saying = let sleeping dogs lie. This is why the Conservative Party of Canada has gone further Left. In Canada, a lot of Conservative voters vote to win, which is why the Liberal Party of Canada has been going further Left which forces the NDP to the Far Left.
Justin Trudeau has pretty much hijacked the NDP platform and make no mistake about it, the Liberals want B.C as do the Conservatives and the Greens. However, the NDP needs to remind BC as to why government over-reach is necessary for the greater good.
The NDP has to sell voters on why they need to keep taxes and the cost of living high and one of those ways is to have more women in politics. Forget competence, what we need is to make sure the government meets a racial and gender quota, so they can have equal representation of the laws.
Now obviously, this is a bad idea, but you’d only know that if you used the internet to gain knowledge. I still know a lot of people who only use the internet for entertainment purposes. If let’s say most of your knowledge is derived from a narrative pushed Netflix, what the NDP is attempting to do would resonate with you.
I have a lot of Leftists in my family and how easily they’re manipulated is scary to me. They don’t listen to the words that come out of politicians’ mouths, what they hear is what they perceive. So if the Leftist politician presents themselves well, the Leftists will succumb to the rhetoric.
During the debates, the leftists in my family liked Maxime Bernier more than they liked Andrew Scheer. Why? Because of Maximes Presentation, they hadn’t even heard of the People’s Party of Canada, they didn’t know what the PPC stood for, all they knew was that Trudeau was number 1, Maxime was number 2 and then there was everyone else.
After observing this, it was clear to me that the Conservative Party made a mistake with Scheer. Maxime as a Conservative may have simply just shown up and been able to beat Trudeau. The uninformed will always be uninformed, they’re not going to read Jonathan Kay’s articles and even if they do, they may not understand where he’s coming from.
Leftists try to figure out your angle instead of simply listening to what you have to say. Those words sound Right-wing and should be ignored, they’ll tell themselves. People on the Right let you finish your argument and then pick apart your argument, the Leftists will interrupt your argument in fears they’ll lose control of the narrative.
The battle between the Left and Right will go on forever because the Conservatives continue to bend when they don’t have too. It would be wise for Conservatives to simply allow Democracy to run it’s coarse’. Sometimes it’s just time for the Left to dominate politics and other times the Right will dominate, the problem is that when the Right is in charge, they lean further Left, which confuses the uneducated voter, who imagines the Conservative as the cheap, stingy Liberal, who was hiding money away from the poor in some hidden vault only they know about.
Look how Trudeau basically gave people a UBI teaser. Now if the Conservatives were actual Conservatives they’d complain about this free money all the way through, but they didn’t complain, instead, many Conservatives in Canada agreed and now that Canadian voters have gotten a taste of UBI, they will want more and more and more of it.
Now, obviously this free money giveaway has its consequences, however, if the Conservatives had made this a party platform when those consequences become obvious the Conservatives could swing the pendulum back, but instead what the Conservatives have done to themselves is put themselves in a situation that if they take power when the economic disaster strikes, they’re going to have a hard time with austerity measures because the perception of the voter is that they want everything to be the way it was without losing any of the perks they had under Trudeau.
This plays into the identity politics narrative that basically any monkey can be a politician in Canada and things will run smoothly. This dangerous game Canada is playing has dire consequences but based on what I know about Latin American Socialism, economic crashes kind of sneak up on you.
Canadians per capita have higher IQs than Latin Americans, so in my humble opinion the economic crash will wake all of us up. Even if we’re pretending to not know what the problem is now, once the economy crashes we’re all going to know what the problem is.
My problem is actually the Conservative Party, because Brian Mulroney had the opportunity to repeal everything Pierre Trudeau had done to the Canadian economy but he didn’t. Instead, Canada had to wait for Paul Martin and Jean Chretien to ‘cut’ the size of government and this is what preserved the Liberal brand.
Even in BC, they don’t like Liberals, BC likes Progressive politics, but it doesn’t like the Liberal Brand. It also doesn’t like the Conservative brand all that much either. If you ask me Canada is waiting for a viable People’s Party of Canada. I don’t think the PPC has arrived yet, but I think Maxime is not something.
Identity Politics is incompetent politics, but I think the democratic process needs to go through this transition. Canada is already broke, we’re not broke in a way that can’t be fixed, but we’re broke and I think Canadians need to feel the pain of bad socialist ideas, for things to really turn around! Check out the article below it’s a great read!
