Gig labour market DOES NOT need policy reforms, Gig economy needs fewer regulations that result in higher costs – June 19, 2020,
No, when I ‘m writing this I’m not writing for the people in the Gig economy because ultimately they can decide if they want their cost of doing business to rise unnecessarily to increase the size of government and create more big heating and air-conditioned government offices with highly paid unnecessary government employees to make their Gig economy even more difficult and more expensive to operate.
Once the government gets more involved in the Gig economy, there will be licenses, lobby groups and all manners of stupidity that will make the cost to getting involved in a Gig economy more expensive, why? Because the article below, thinks people in the Gig economy should get more government benefits.
Canadians would be shocked to learn how much of their tax dollars go to paying for services they’ll never use, services that are often abusive by people who don’t work, don’t want to work and government highly paid government employees who would otherwise not exist. Trudeau recently created a new government person called the middle Minister? It’s one of the dumbest government creations in Canadian history, however, there are tons more government workers that exist and sometimes get paychecks near $100K that do nothing do grow the economy.
One of the reasons there are job shortages in Canada is because employers have regulations that don’t allow them to hire and train people for highly skilled jobs, do you really think employers won’t rather train someone themselves instead of waiting on Canadian colleges and Universities to hopefully find them the talent they need?
No, the main reason why employers don’t train more Canadians is because of the unnecessary government costs and of course the litigation. We live in a litigious society and any visual minority can use the government to sue a private business if the employee feels like they’ve been treated unfairly, this is one o the biggest job killers in Canada and the Western Worl for that matter and it all stems from growing the size and influence of government on our lives.
If you’re in the Gig economy, you’re a private contractor, the government hates private contractors because they don’t pay as much INCOME TAXES! Employees pay the most income taxes and the truth of the matter is the more private contractors there are, the better government has to be, because I’ve stated in other posts, voting patterns are different when you have to write the CRA a check at the end of the year!
In certain countries in Europe where regressive taxes are the taxes of choice, even the Socialist politicians have to be careful how they frame their economic arguments because even socialists in many European countries don’t like deficit spending which they’re well aware makes the cost of living too high.
Private contractors change the behavior of politicians because when you have a lot of skilled private contractors, they bid on government contracts, which also makes them more knowledgable about what’s happening in their, city, province and country, which means they’ll know first hand if a government is being wasteful.
In my opinion, Canadian governments since Pierre Trudeau has been one of the most wasteful governments in the world, what benefits us is that we border with the United States a privilege that very other Western countries wished they had. I’ve heard people say Canada should diversify it’s economy away from the United States, well, my reply is, Canada isn’t competitive globally, that’s why we’re losing our manufacturing even though we devalue our currency and border with the United States.
The article you can read below comes from the financial post and the argument they’re trying to make is for Gig economy workers to qualify for Employment Insurance. There are pros and cons to everything, the pro to being a 9-5 worker is that you pay the most INCOME taxes, which entitled you to protections from the government, as a private contractor you get the freedom to set your own schedule, but the downside is you’re on your own, big government people can see what direction the world is heading and they want the gig economy to finance the big government we have in Canada.
Ultimately the choice is up to people in the Gig Economy, but if I were them, I’d stay as far away from government benefits s possible!
Interesting times ahead
