Government legislation would force electronics giants to give consumers tools to repair brand-name electronic gadgets – May 22, 2019,
So yeah, here again, goes the reason why I will continuously bash minimum wage laws. Young people are doing things you’d expect young people to do, especially when those young people know little about business. I recently wrote an article about why I don’t buy Apple products, in short, I don’t buy Apple products because of it’s exclusivity, once you buy let’s say an Apple iPhone you’re stuck buying all of these other silly Apple gadgets to go along with Apple iPhone, buying Samsung means earpieces, cases, charging cables and everything else is cheaper and more available, so I stay away from Apple, it’s a choice. Now, when Canada used to make things, they didn’t need government legislation, Canadian companies would simply meet the demands of their consumers.
But you see some people namely the labor union types came up with these bright ideas that are very costly to businesses, so business costs skyrocketed and Canada basically priced itself out of a lot of manufacturing jobs which of course leads to a lot of small businesses who can also provide more jobs. Anyway, long story short even companies like BlackBerry can’t turn a profit manufacturing in Canada because markets go up and down and the cost of doing business adds an additional layer of risk because of existing laws that are similar to the new law that’ being proposed
First things first the only thing Ottawa makes is life more expensive, secondly, the structure of the Canadian government is already a repellent for innovation and new businesses. thirdly, Canada isn’t a manufacturing hub for smartphones anymore, Blackberries are yesterday’s news in 2019, some people say it’s because Blackberry was slow to get with the touch screen, I argue that Canada didn’t attract more smartphone manufacturers. When Blackberry was at its APEX Ottawa should have done everything in its power to attract more smartphone manufacturers to Canada, but of course, government people see things in reverse, people for big government when they see any form of wealth instead want to tax and redistribute that wealth and when that wealth is dead and gone, new generations of Canadians who don’t understand anything about intellectual property, obviously will make some assumptions about manufacturing based on their entitled upbringing.
Yeah, these smartphones made their way to Canada, we bought them, so now we own the companies and we want our government to nationalize these companies because they’re selling us stuff we want. Yes, when you create a regulation like the one being proposed, you’re basically attempting to nationalize a privately owned company, it’s actually not too far from the intellectual property theft we often see in China. Guess what Canada, this is why shouldn’t turn away manufacturing, because stupid shit like this happens. Canada is a tiny market in comparison to other parts of the world, yes I get it, when you live here, you assume that the entire planet revolves around you, but to the rest of the business world Canada is a tiny market share, that has to work to make itself stand out amongst other nations.
Why does Canada have a money laundering problem? Because a lot of our economic policies, for the most part, act as a repellent for investment to our country. So with that said sure, Canada can create this law forcing manufacturers to adhere to our laws, but similar to Crown Corporations, Canadians options will become limited. In Ontario currently you have to go to central government source to purchase alcohol so guess what those central sources do? They raise prices, which equates to fewer options for Ontarians, you know because fewer options equate to higher prices and if the retailer has no competition and has its own labor union, maybe that Crown Corporation can base its pricing on whatever metric it feels is fair, it’s not like consumers have a choice.
I think the people who want this law to make smartphones easier to fix are well-meaning, but this is the problem with modern day socialist education. Kids don’t even know what intellectual property is, 8-tracks disappeared faster than cassette tapes did, because a better invention came along and then a CD’s and then Mp3 players, now your phone can do it all. I get that Canada isn’t innovating anymore, I just wish people would start asking why!
Technology is the worst thing to regulate because it’s constantly evolving, instead of running to the government, what these people should have done is created their own smartphone, but you see for whatever reason in their minds they think it better to attack the existing behemoths in hopes they can make that existing behemoths bow at their feet. I began this article writing about Blackberry, why? Because Blackberry used to be what Apple iPhone and Samsungs Smartphone are today and now, I rarely if ever hear anyone talking about Blackberry? Now imagine we had over regulated Blackberry, there’s a possibility that Apple and Samsung would have avoided the Canadian consumer entirely, that’ the stupidity of many of these government laws.
If you go to Amazon.ca today and can’t seem to figure out why items sold on Amazon.com(The US version) don’t exist on Amazon.ca it’s because of stupid government laws. Quaker CAP’N CRUNCH® Cereal as an example, hard to find in Canadian stores and if you manage to buy it on Amazon Canada, you’ll notice the inflated price attached, why? Because of law that was passed by the government that decides what cereals Canadians should eat. It’s embarrassing that most Canadians don’t even understand this stuff.
