I really like this idea, stop rewarding Canadians who do not work: Manitoba government doubles subsidy for new or rehired workers during pandemic – August 26, 2020
If I were designing a minimum wage replacement, it would be something like this, no minimum wage but, if lets a person didn’t make the annual provincial minimum wage amount for the year, they would be exempt from paying certain taxes and that would go on into perpetuity and be retroactive.
I personally believe in tariffs, so my minimum wage would also carry over to how I would structure my countries tariff system, which would be designed to make sure countries who manipulate their currencies didn’t have an unfair advantage on the Canadian worker or in the Canadian market place.
The last thing any nation wants are people on welfare, we have a fiat monetary system which I’ll openly say I have no problem with and this political-fiat-dollar revolves around a countries ability to produce more than it consumes. As our welfare state grows, it puts the Canadian dollar under a lot of pressure, and I have to say although it’s not how I would do things, I really like what the Manitoba government did here.
They’re incentivizing people to work by giving them more money, now if you’re thinking that’s a horrible idea, I say to you, would you rather these people stay home and collect the same welfare check for doing absolutely nothing? The Government in my opinion made the wrong decision by shutting everything down, but what is done is done, let’s get the economy moving again.
I’m a believer in work, this world isn’t perfect, but idle people destroy civilization, we have a fiat money system, this gives us a lot of flexibility if it’s not abused and the best way to abuse a fiat money system is to reward people who do not work!
