Municipal and Provincial Leaders Making Promises They Can’t Keep – The Reason John Tory is asking the province to ‘reverse’ funding cuts – May 21, 2019,

When the Federal Government gets the lions share of money via taxation to distribute the money amongst the provinces and when the Federal Government is viewed by the people as the entity that will solve all financial problems in a democracy the entities beneath them, like the Municipal and Provincial governments will inevitably make promises to their voters that they know they can’t keep.

What happened with Kathleen Wynne is that she was viewed by Ontarians at one point as anti-Stephen-Harper, she was seen by the people who voted for her as a person who was taking from the rich Conservative Government government and giving the money to the poor. Then something terrible happened, Justin Trudeau got elected, replacing Stephen Harper, which unfortunately for Kathleen Wynne took away from her mysticism, all of sudden, she no longer had anyone to blame for her incompetence, Canada had a Liberal Prime Minister and Ontario had a Liberal Premier, now, unfortunately, all the policies she had been fighting for began to get passed without any pushback and Ontarians began to feel the financial pinch, price inflation, price gauging occurring at every level, businesses closing down because of the higher minimum wages and the higher energy costs. Help us the Ontario people screamed from within as they now felt what incompetence felt like.

The people’s prayers are answered, a familiar face known as Doug Ford enters the race, the election was over before it started, The Liberals and The NDP tried but failed miserably to make Doug Ford appear to be a sexist, racists, I mean come on, his brother was caught smoking crack with a group of visible minorities, and Doug Ford has four daughters: Krista, Kayla, Kara, and Kyla, so the dirty politics wouldn’t stick, Doug Ford becomes and Premier and starts to deliver on his promises to voters. Well, you see that’s not a good thing if you’re a mayor who for the most part hasn’t been straight forward with the people you serve about the cost for public services.

Public servants don’t work for free and if you’re going to hire them full time because you fear the backlash, of having certain services delivered by the private sector, well Doug Ford could be your worst nightmare. There are needed public servants and then there are convenient public servants, in which the government hires because some decisions are tough to make, sometimes as a mayor, you have to make choices that might cause you to lose your position. But you see that’s why as a politician you shouldn’t lie in the first place. When you don’t lie or embellish the truth based on inflated numbers, you’ll get hired based on what you know you can deliver on. The truth is that sometimes it’s just time for you to go or it’s simply time for you to step down. But who are we kidding here, politicians love their cozy positions of power, so even when they’re incompetent they’re not willing to admit their mistakes or miscalculations, instead, they’d rather cast blame or make it appear that they’re a victim of a higher authority.

John Tory has been the type of mayor that yields to public pressure, which doesn’t make him a good leader. Now, I’ve been open about not agreeing with Doug Ford and his handling of Real Estate, but, that was part of what he promised, Doug Ford did say he would cater to the Real Estate Lobby, but I still voted for him. Why, because I don’t expect Doug Ford to think or view the world in the exact same way I view the world, he’s the leader, if I wanted to lead the province I’d compete with him for office, something I’m not willing to do. If I’m not willing to compete with him and win, in a democratic system I have to live with the consequences.

That aside, there lies the difference between Doug Ford and John Tory and quite frankly I’m also sympathetic with John Tory because in my personal opinion, the lions share of taxes should go to the Municipalities not the Provinces or the Federal government. What annoys me most about our current system is that municipal leaders and Provincial leaders often make promises they KNOW they can’t keep, knowing that they can blame the government body that grants them their money as the reason why they’re unable to deliver on certain promises they made. If on the other hand, the lions share of my income taxes, sales taxes went to the municipality in which I reside, municipal leaders would be less inclined to lie to the people they serve. Because they’d have no excuses when they’re unable to deliver.

Public servants, public services are expensive, most public servants are unionized and have pay scales and benefits that exceed people who work the equivalent job in the private sector. Furthermore, Public Servants tend to have more job security and rights on the job, which of course equates to public servants often behaving like Politicians, saying whatever needs to be said or doing whatever needs to be done, not to get fired, while at the same time adding more bureaucracy to the workplace. Public servants get paid an hourly wage whether a job get’s completed or not, bureaucracy in a workplace often leads to wasteful spending which is then used for a political campaign.

This is why public servants should be kept to a bare minimum, in the private sector it’s in the best interests of all parties to get a job completed for the least amount possible, because in the private sector bankruptcies, disgruntled customers, lower sales, unemployment, bad reputation and all manner of things related to providing a good service could mean the end of company, this is not always the truth in politics. In politics, as long as the politician has a scapegoat, they can sometimes spread their bad policies and bad decisions as successes. If a person knows little to nothing about business and a politician makes everything sound easy, the ignorant voters might be inclined to vote for the idiot lying Politician.

In the private sector things of course work a little differently, if you do just enough in the private sector, you’ll either lose customers, lose your job or lose your business very quickly because in the private sector you have to meet the demands of the people you serve and if you don’t, there is no Federal Government you can blame if your business is bankrupt. Canada, for the most part, is bankrupt and we’re bankrupt mainly because of bad government policies. In my personal opinion, the cause of our bankruptcy stems from the municipal governments making promises they can’t keep.

I see and hear about it all the time. It sickens me whenever I see a municipal representative who I know I’m smarter than, who is fighting to protect or even increase public services, without explaining where the money will come from. Equaling I hear from a lot of municipal politicians who fight for wage and price controls. Public Servants don’t work for free, if you want a crown corporation, understand that Crown Corporations equate to less competition and therefore equate to more lobby groups and higher prices for the people the politician represents. Now, if people were being educated from the municipal level, the Federal Government would get away with a lot fewer lies. An educated voter is a smarter voter, and a smarter voter knows that public servants don’t always equate better services! An educated voter also understands that nothing comes for free, there are trade-offs. If LCBO has a monopoly on selling alcohol prices will be higher, unions will be formed for the employees, there will be lobby groups who will fight to justify price increases on consumers and consumers will have fewer choices because the Crown Corporation will supersede any privately owned business in their space.

Consider reading the article below, as everyone knows, the CBC wants to paint Conservatives as heartless, greedy, racists who put money before everything, yet I don’t know too many people employed by CBC who are willing to work for free or who would put their personal greedy aside to take a pay cut or request the government to cut back their public funding.
