NAFTA: Is Canada stalled, or just stalling? – September 16, 2018

Based on the information I’ve been reading as well as my own personal analysis of Chrystia Freeland, my personal belief is that Canada is in some serious trouble regardless of what ends up happening regarding the North American Free Trade Agreement what’s not sinking into the Canadian Political system is the changes heading our way. We have a lot of protectionism and word is starting to the spread that some of the old ways of doing business, simply don’t apply in today’s technological world.

Canada said they would wait for Mexico before talking with Trump, take a read at what Mexico said about Canada regarding NAFTA trade negotiations.

“We hope the U.S. and Canada will conclude their bilateral negotiation shortly. If that is not possible we are ready to advance bilaterally with the U.S.”

I was reading The Canadian Press article by James McCarten on MSN today, you can read it for yourself by clicking the link below:

NAFTA: Is Canada stalled, or just stalling?

What’s standing out to me with a lot of these writers is the short-sightedness of their arguments. Tariffs could very well be the new norm when Canada trades with the United States, regardless of who the president is. Tariffs are a much need tax that the Democratic party will gladly use to suit there needs as long as lobbying doesn’t become a problematic issue for the economy. By problematic I mean the entities in the United States who want to use the government to keep out the foreign competition while raising their prices on consumers. As long as that doesn’t happen too rapidly, the Democrats would absolutely use Tariffs t pay for their social programs.

What does the aforementioned mean for Canada? It equates to a more complicated relationship with the United States, which ultimately puts a lot of Canada’s social safety nets at risk. In this article, James McCarten writes about data protection for biologics, which is something that is rarely talked about. One of the reasons why I avoid talking about specifics is that specifics are the reason that Trump wants to rip up or alter NAFTA. Canada and the U.S may need each other for somethings but not need each other for other things.

The auto sector is something Ontario needs to maintain it’s social safety net and if that industry leaves or is made smaller, everything else gets affected. Canadians have taken the approach that big Corporations are more important than small businesses, current Finance Bill Morneau even wanted to make this worse by changing the tax code to benefit large corporations because in his view doctors and other professionals were making too much money and pay enough taxes for the Liberals to redistribute to the entities they deem worry.

This is the type of thinking why a lot of Canadians don’t see anything wrong with supply management. If you listen to most people siding with the supply management, they all talk about how U.S Agriculture will wipe out Canadian agriculture. Is this true? if it is true? why is it true? In Canada, we’ve been taught and brainwashed that it’s the government’s job to protect us, in everything. This is the accepted reality for most Canadians, and it’s why most of us don’t get upset when the Let leaning media in Canada talks or writes about welfare for the rich.

Supply management is welfare for the rich, minimum wages is not only racist in nature it’s also welfare for the rich as it raises the barrier to create new jobs. This type of thinking is why people on some type of government subsidy look at welfare as a moral good that eventually everyone should qualify for. This, of course, leads to a culture of a low energy people, who don’t want to push back in fear their benefits will either get cut or never exist for them to take from in the future.

Forget NAFTA the economic health of Canada is in some serious danger. The longer this NAFTA fight lasts the more it’s likely that Democrats embrace the tariffs. The difference between the Donald Trump and the Democrats is that if this becomes a part of the Democrats platform when they enact tariffs they’ll be a lot slower to change them or renegotiate the terms. Donald Trump is an interesting character because he likes to get things done fast.

Most politicians would prefer to take their time, especially when an issue isn’t going to help them politically. Canada is now a topic for discussion in America, so if Democrats enact tariffs on Canada it might barely make the news. NAFTA makes the news because the media hates Trump, the longer these discussions last the more likely it is that American voters side with their farmers. Be warned Canada the world is changing and the way I see it we’re on the wrong side of that change.

Interesting times ahead.
