Most Ontarians fully support free trade, survey finds

Canada has a lot of protected industries. Life in Canada is expensive for a reason. Free trade means Canadians would have to compete for business and quite frankly with all the protected industries in Canada, I doubt that today’s Ontario could compete if we really had free trade. Tariffs exist because Canada is protectionist. Liberal, NDP and Conservative have made promises that if there was free trade would decimate a large segment of Ontario businesses. The truth is and we’ve seen this time and time again only a handful of Canadian business would be able to survive if American companies were allowed to trade freely in Canada.

Rogers Cable and Bell Canada would be bankrupt in a few years had there been any competition. Ontarians would be richer, however this concept of job security would change as well the hard working would have more money, which the lazy would want to steal from. Although Ontarians support free trade I personally wonder if they’d be able to handle it. We a people get used to protectionism they’re often frightened of the free market, they’re frightened of bartered transactions, salesmen, deals back and forth negotiations where there’s no government watchdog to protect you from the fine print of a contract.
