Ontario Premier Doug Ford is making Jerry Dias smart: Ontario is contributing a “massive amount” to “businesses like Ford Canada, Unifor President thanks Liberal politicians – September 25, 2020,
If you simply read the title of the article below, you’d assume that Unifor via the Liberal Party of Canada brokered a deal all by themselves with Ford Motor Canada, but the reality of the situation is that Ontario Premier Doug Ford did all of the heavy lifting. Because without the Corporate Welfare promised by the Doug Ford government, this deal would have never happened.
Now there is a lot of promise with these Ford Electric vehicles, but in my opinion, electric vehicles haven’t exact arrived yet and with the additional costs Ford has to spend on Unionized employees(an added Cost Toyota doesn’t have to worry about), Ford Motors need some guarantees by the government, that they’d compensate Ford for taking all of this risk.
With that said ‘Dias thanked local and federal politicians for support during the negotiations’. Jerry Dias of UNIFOR is very political, and although Doug Ford is pro-corporate Welfare, Leftists will never give him any credit. Leftists usually don’t give Conservatives any credit and I don’t blame them for it.
My problem with Canadian Conservative politicians is why do they bend? This corporate bailout isn’t going to help Doug Ford in the polls, in the United States, it SHOULD be laughable at this point that Joe Biden has a legitimate chance to beat Trump, but the reality is according to the polls Joe Biden is ahead!
Why? because Conservatives are often covering for bad Leftist ideas. Now, if let us say all the car manufacturers in Canada were hurting, I’d say ok maybe there is some legitimacy to Ford Canada needing this bailout. But Toyota Canada doesn’t need a bailout, actually, Ford Canada doesn’t need a bailout either, the reality of the situation is that Unifor is the main culprit of manufacturing jobs leaving Canada.
Both in Canada and America, the unions are destroying the manufacturing sectors, now, had the government not intervened which is really only benefiting the labor unions, both Ford and GM manufacturing wouldn’t exist in North America right now.
I personally don’t invest in any U.S auto manufacturing companies stock, including Tesla. Because there will come a time when Western Auto manufacturers learn the hard way that unions are driving away business. But I would think that Doug Ford who owns a business would know better than to subsidize UNIFOR, because that’s all this deal is, this deal makes Jerry Dias look competent.
Just being honest, I don’t know about the future of electric vehicles without quick charging. The electric F-150 will need at least 500 Kilometers of range to be a realistic option, and I’m curious to know what the battery range of the F-150 will be while carrying a heavy load, because, with lower oil prices, an F-150 truck could end up as a niche for big corporations who will have a fleet of them.
The small business person with an F-150 can be anywhere and if there’s no charging station a small business owner/contractor may imagine an electric f-150 as a burden instead of an asset. The owners of a Tesla are usually leisure drivers, Tesla appeals to an entirely different crowd and this risk alone is the main reason why American auto manufacturers need the ability to be flexible.
What would make North American auto manufacturers better is shedding the parasitic labour union culture! Doug Ford similar to the Liberal Party of Canada seems rather short-sighted only thinking about the upcoming election. I don’t understand Doug Ford, because Doug Ford has a business, it’s not like Doug Ford is one of these Leftist politicians with nothing to fall back on.
Bill Morneau had no problem stepping down because he has a business waiting for him, it’s this thirst for power, this thirst to be loved that corrupts most people who get into politics. This ‘greater good state of mind’ feeds into parasitic cultures and it’s going to cost Ontario big and be a stain on Doug Fords’ resume.
Very smart decision making by Ford Canada, making the Canadian government finance their risky venture, and I’ll give Jerry Dias his credit for making a fool out of Doug Ford!
