PRICE CONTROLS and the French Economy: France Erupts in Protests as ‘Block Everything’ Movement Grows (Austerity or Collapse – A Nation Without Christ) – September 12, 2025

Posted on September 12, 2025 by RichInWriters

France is once again at a crossroads.

Widespread protests under the banner of the “Block Everything” movement have paralyzed the nation, a clear sign that the economic and spiritual foundation of France is under immense strain. The people cry out for relief, but without true repentance and a return to biblical principles, France is hurtling toward either austerity—or collapse.

As Christians, we must go deeper than economic analysis. We must see the spiritual decay beneath the surface and recognize what happens to a nation when it rejects Christ and builds its economy on centralized control and secular ideologies.

The Problem with Fiat Money and Price Controls

Fiat money, untethered to any real standard like gold or silver, can become a playground for the financially educated, while simultaneously trapping the poor in dependency. Without wisdom rooted in God’s truth, human systems of finance often drift toward manipulation, greed, and coercion.

France is no exception.

French voters—many of whom identify as pro-labor union and pro-socialism—have repeatedly chosen policies that enforce price controls, wage mandates, and central economic planning. But Scripture warns against such man-made systems of control:

“You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a heavy and a light.”
— Deuteronomy 25:13

When prices and wages are artificially set by governments rather than free individuals operating in a marketplace, injustice and imbalance are inevitable. True justice comes from freedom, honesty, and a recognition of private property as ordained by God.

France’s Spiritual and Economic Disconnect

France’s economic struggles are not purely fiscal—they are deeply spiritual. The country’s long history of Catholicism, once a moral compass, has given way to widespread secularism. At the same time, France has welcomed millions of immigrants with vastly different worldviews, further fragmenting the cultural identity of the nation.

The result? A society caught between religious tradition, atheism, and socialist ideology, leaving little room for biblical Christianity, which offers liberty, responsibility, and truth.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
— Psalm 33:12

When a nation turns its back on God, it replaces freedom with force. France today is experiencing the consequences of embracing secular systems of control rather than the transforming power of Christ.

The Illusion of “Democracy” Without God

It is important to recognize that democracy alone cannot save a nation. Without Christ, democracy becomes little more than mob rule, where the majority imposes unsound policies under the guise of justice. Whether in France, Japan, or Singapore, nations without Christ may appear “efficient” on paper, but beneath the surface lies deep spiritual dryness—and often authoritarian undercurrents.

Singapore, for example, is lauded for its economic management. But its system depends heavily on censorship, surveillance, and strict governmental control. The soul of the people is often subdued in exchange for “order.” Similarly, Japan maintains democratic structures, but with low voter engagement, limited diversity, and significant political stagnation.

These examples reveal a crucial truth: Earthly systems may function without Christ, but they cannot flourish spiritually. The peace is superficial, the freedom conditional, and the people often cut off from deeper meaning.

France: A Welfare State in Crisis

France’s welfare state has grown so large and unsustainable that its only options now are:

  1. Austerity (discipline, cuts, reform), or
  2. Collapse (debt, disorder, dependency).

Unfortunately, many in France see austerity as a regression, not a necessary correction. But God’s Word tells us plainly:

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace…”
— Hebrews 12:11

France doesn’t need more socialism, more price controls, or another reset. It needs repentance. It needs revival. It needs Jesus Christ.

The Dangers of Cultural Blindness

Language and culture influence economics more than many realize. For example, in Quebec, Canada’s French-speaking province, there is a deeply ingrained socialist mindset that sets it apart from English-speaking regions. Many Quebecers view state support not as a privilege but as an entitlement, a cultural norm that stifles innovation and discourages risk-taking.

This cultural blind spot isn’t unique to Quebec. It mirrors the mindset of many in France, where socialism is seen as moral, and personal responsibility is replaced by state intervention. The people do not see themselves as entitled, but entitlement has become embedded in their expectations.

When Priests and Pastors Forget Their Purpose

The spiritual leadership in France has also contributed to this crisis. The centralized nature of Catholicism, while historically rich in tradition, often fails to encourage personal responsibility and economic understanding. Too often, priests and even Protestant pastors are economically disconnected, dependent on their congregations, and silent on issues of financial stewardship.

But in Scripture, God calls us to work with our hands, to serve others, and to live with integrity—not to rely on others for sustenance without offering value.

“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’”
— 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Churches must stop enabling dependency and start teaching biblical economics, rooted in honesty, stewardship, and innovation.

The Path Forward: Repentance, Liberty, and Christ

France’s future is not without hope. But the path forward is narrow. The “Block Everything” movement is a symptom of a deeper issue: a broken trust in leadership, a collapsing economy, and a people spiritually adrift.

Unless France turns to Christ, its systems—no matter how “democratic”—will continue to fail.

Austerity without Christ leads to bitterness.
But austerity with Christ leads to renewal.

A return to biblical values—including free markets, private property, hard work, and charity—will not only rebuild the economy, it will restore the soul of the nation.

Final Word

We are witnessing the consequences of abandoning God across the Western world. France is only one example. When a nation turns from Christ and embraces man-made systems, even noble intentions give way to corruption, coercion, and collapse.

But the solution is the same in every country, in every heart:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
— Matthew 6:33

If you haven’t yet, consider making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior today. In Him, there is true freedom—not managed by governments or manipulated by systems, but eternal, unchanging, and abundant.
