Prior to the Carbon Tax – Statistics Canada reports retail sales rose 1.1 percent in March 2019 – May 22, 2019,
As many people know Justin Trudeau has done a lot of government spending as well as adding an additional layer of tariffs, this, of course, helps retail sales numbers who benefit from inflated prices, this is obviously not good for consumers who suffer under this nonsense. Now it should be mentioned that the article below is in March 2019, prior to the Trudeau’s Carbon Tax, what will be interesting will be the impact carbon taxes is having on the retail sector in the coming month’s.
Although the assumption is that the retail sector in Canada will benefit from carbon taxes, the truth is that this is not always the case, because the private sector retailers are often slow to pass on costs to consumers, when you see price inflation from retailers it’s often because they’re forced to do it, not necessarily because they want to do it.
Because it’s important to remember that when retailers raise prices, it takes a while for customers to adjust, customers will wait for sales, consume less or look for alternatives, it’s when the consumer realizes there aren’t any alternatives that the consumer returns and even then out of anger the consumer will typically opt to spend less, because the average consumer isn’t aware that it’s the government raising prices, retailers want people to buy as much crap as possible, retailers do not want to get stuck with inventory, because waged employees get paid no matter what an if the big box retailer is losing money in multiple fronts, often what happens is you’ll see a lot of retail closures.
It’s already happening all over Canada, it’s just that it will be interesting if the problem explodes based on this carbon taxes, because energy costs are expensive, especially if you own a business, that consumes a lot of energy which is another cost businesses have to pay for with the carbon tax. Shipping prices might also rise even for electric cars oddly enough, as basically carbon taxes are a price to breathe.
It might not seem like it is, but the reason why the Carbon tax is a scam is that nobody really knows where that money is going, they claim it’s a tax on pollution, but where is this money really going? Common sense would tell you it’s going to these multinational corporations, who use particular politicians like Macron and Trudeau who appeal to young people, to pass laws that young people will have to pay for their entire lives.
I’m old, my days on this planet are numbered, but if young people grow up on this planet assuming that carbon taxes are the norm, young people might live their entire lives forced to pay to breathe.
