The Reason The Conservative Party of Canada is Pro-Protectionism and Pro Tariff
When Trump threatened Canada was tariffs it didn’t surprise me that the NDP and Liberal parties supported a tit-for-tat tariff, what did surprise me were the Conservatives. I couldn’t wrap my head around why the Conservative party would support limit competition and higher prices then the National Post came out with the following article titled:
Our dairy, egg and poultry producers don’t want to compete. Our politicians agreeOur dairy, egg and poultry producers don’t want to compete. Our politicians agree
First, I have to give credit where credit is due, the Canadian Libertarian whose youtube video can be seen below brought this article to my attention
The threat of separatism, this is something I didn’t much emphasis on before, but it should be noted that a select few Quebecers, the elites amongst them are using their leverage of separation against not only other Quebecers but against the Canadian people. Donald Trump for me is a historic figure, mainly because he challenged the status quo. How the Donald Trump story ends, nobody knows as of July 2018, but he’s certainly helped to bring things to my attention that I never gave much thought too before.
By now Canadians know that we have 4 Left-leaning political parties, this ultimately lead to Canada being a corporatist nation. Crown corporations are often used as was to keep competition to a minimum. Canada in many ways would have similar inflation problems as Argentina if we didn’t have the United States as a trading partner. The reality is the United States economically is the best thing to have to happen to Canada, but there’s also a problem with the United States as a trading partner. Americans are more ambitious than Canadians are, the take on more risk, they’re not afraid of competition, and because the American economy is so competitive they’re business are constantly looking to the future.
In Canada for many of our industries we’re comfortable with what’s worked, let’s not rock the boat, if it’s efficient why evolve? Blackberry is the prime example of Canadian corporate arrogance, unfortunately for Blackberry our tech industry isn’t as protected as our dairy industry, so Blackberry has been forced to downsize and restructure in the hopes of making a comeback in some way shape or form. If Canadian dairy was ever put in the same situation, I don’t know if they could win, I honestly think they’d be wiped out because they’ve been so used to not competing that if it ever happened they’d be screwed.
NAFTA = The North American Free Trade agreement, I went to the United States recently, bought something for under $100 I had to pay a tariff. I’ve been paying Tariffs long before Trump, Canadian consumers have been paying Tariffs long before Trump and I thought at the very least the Conservative party would put up a fight. Nope, nothing, I don’t know if I’ll be voting Conservative in the future, of course, I’m not voting Liberal or NDP but I think I’m going to be looking at the Libertarian party of Canada a lot more going forward.
It’s now clear as day to me that the Conservatives are under the thumb of lobbyist groups. I didn’t want to believe it, but it’s as clear as day now. I won’t lie to my readers either, I love Canada but when I go across the U.S border I feel a little bit more free, that feeling of being able to protect myself, the freedom of purchasing a house at near market prices, the freedom of knowing that American’s will fight for their country and do the uncomfortable. It’s something I’ve been considering more and more.
In Canada, the fight isn’t clear yet, I still hear a lot of conservatives that sound protectionist. They only vote conservative because they hate Trudeau, not really my style, individual liberties, free markets, less government, more love, less force, more volunteerism, less welfare, more private sector less public sector. Fewer tariffs.
Interesting times ahead.
