Small town Canada is dying. This is sad. But it’s not tragic. – Reply – August 20, 2018
In the not so distant future, there’s a good chance that future generations will look back at us and say to themselves. “Our ancestors were really silly”. This post is in response to the article to the article written on Mcleans written by Scott Gilmore titled Small town Canada is dying. This is sad. But it’s not tragic. you click the link below to read it in full.
Small town Canada is dying. This is sad. But it’s not tragic.
Nothing is more depressing for most young people than to be in a small town that has no hope of future growth. Now, let’s be honest here, what makes and keeps towns small? It’s a lack of opportunity. In a developed country what causes there to be a lack of opportunity? Collectivism, socialism, rigidity an unwillingness to change, an unwillingness to allow businesses and industries to prosper a wanting to control as many aspects of the business as possible a general hatred for the free market and rich people.
One of the places mentioned in this Maclean’s article is New Brunswick, Greyhound has no reason to be there because people are moving away from there. Well, the question is even with all this Justin Trudeau inspired open borders immigration policy why aren’t the immigrants migrating to places like New Brunswick? Well, for the most part, the incentives to move to New Brunswick are same as the incentives to move to Toronto or Vancouver. You see when it comes to leftism, what any Leftist with common sense will tell you is it’s best to add Socialism or left-leaning policies after a large number of people have migrated to an area, not before.
Because that way at the very least as long as nothing destructive like a minimum wage that’s too high doesn’t destroy the free market the big city, for the most part, will hold up. Communist China has similar problems as Canda, they have plenty of ghost cities because their central planning government can’t get the idea of out Chinese peoples minds that a smaller oppressive city has more to offer than a bigger oppressive city does. The Chinese people, namely the younger Chinese people want to be in cities like Shanghai. when people come to Canada they want to go to Toronto, if they can’t afford Toronto they’ll consider the next biggest city in Ontario, Ottawa or Hamilton, Niagara Falls or Windsor.
New Brunswick as a province is as left-leaning as Ontario is and this is a problem because New Brunswick didn’t do enough to bring in enough people before resorting to socialism and committing to the Liberal party of Canada to solve their economic problems. See it’s to the point now that Greyhound is basically saying it’s costing us too much money to even drive to your province. Most companies go to an area because they anticipate that this area will grow. Greyhound announced it will be ending all of its service in the Prairies. That’s tragic and it points out how and why America differs from Canada.
In America, because Americans are often outspoken and love to debate, the truth about leftism and big government typically gets exposed in the midst of a municipal town hall meeting debate. As one American politician will talk to people as individuals while the other talks to the people as a collective. The politician that appeals to the individual whether Democrat or Republican often becomes the leader and because Americans are outspoken the expect results or you’re out of there. The mere thought of Socialism strikes fears into the hearts of most rural communities in America. Americans who live in rural places want nothing to do with socialism because what they imagine is the government seizing their ancestral land.
In Canada, a lot of rural communities are open to the idea of socialism as long as they can make a profit and as long as they’re protected from outside competition. This is part of the reason why Canadians are fighting like hell for Supply-side management even though in the end it’s actually hurting the Prairies. Canadians must stand up to Trump and capitalist America. As Canadians, many of us take pride in believing that we’re better than the United States. Watching hockey night in Canada Canadian ice hockey commentator Don Cherry whenever Canada would play hockey against the United States in some type of Olympic even would always have to remind the Canadian audience not to boo the Americans because in times of war as an example America is more of an ally than Russia.
Now if you think about this and you think about Canada’s reasoning for not wanting to renegotiate NAFTA you’ll see some correlation towards the point I’m trying to make regarding Greyhound no longer wanting to service the prairies. Canada is a very left leaning country and it’s the smaller cities that suffer the most and this is not a small problem this is a very large problem especially if Canada is going to have an open border policy going forward. Canada has basically maxed out its debt ceiling, Canada is losing manufacturing jobs and the smallest Canadians cities can’t attract people, thus putting a strain on the larger cities.
Canada has a trades skilled labor shortage as is, there are already a large number of vacant jobs and quite frankly the leftists have been asking for a Universal Basic Income which of course will only make this problem worse with an open border policy. In my opinion, Canada needs an economic wake-up call, the sooner this happens the better. If this economic wake-up call happens let’s say 10 years from now, the coming collapse will be far worse as Canada won’t have the skilled manpower to deal with the problem. This stories hapening all over Canada need more focused attention.
Interesting times ahead.
