‘That is tinpot dictator stuff’: Calgary Mayor Nenshi blasts Ontario Premier Ford – July 28, 2018,

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi makes it sound like Public servants are more important than taxpaying Canadians. He said something interesting and I think those of you in the private sector should think about it. What Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi said can be read below:

“The election officially started on May 1, people have raised money, they’ve spent money, they’re put their lives on hold, they’ve quit their jobs, they’ve made deals with their families that they’re willing to do public service.

“And on the day the nominations close, for what appear to be perfectly political reasons, without any consultation … for you to say to those folks who put their lives on hold … ‘by the way, the job you’re running for doesn’t exist anymore.’ That’s unconscionable, and I stand with [Toronto] Mayor [John] Tory on this and say that is a direct affront on democracy. That is tinpot dictator stuff.”

You know who else “put their lives on hold”? The private sector, when Kathlynne Wynne raised the minimum wage to $14 per hour Tim Hortons franchise owners had to put their lives on hold and you know what happened to these tax paying job providers? The backlash from Canadian citizens that know little to nothing about starting or operating a business made the news, how dare those Tim Hortons franchises make cutbacks to workers benefits, they should be forced to pay them more money and benefits like Kathlynne Wynne told them too. Most business owners are in debt, most business owners applied for a loan to buy their businesses and these business owners often pay their employees before they themselves get paid.

Public servants, on the other hand, are usually the entities that are preventing jobs from being created, I know a lot of Canadians that way back in the 1990’s refused to work for anything less than $20 per hour. So why then do we need to a minimum wage? We don’t, we have welfare, we have food banks, we even have subsidized housing, we Canadians are pretty privileged as is. If a Canada doesn’t want to work for a wage then don’t, it’s that simple, employers will pay you what you worth because if you’ve ever owned a business, one of the things you’ll learn quickly is good work is hard to find.

Yet the Government workers somehow believe that their jobs supersede everyone else’s? 9 out of 10 businesses fail within the first 5 years, these risk-taking Canadians “put their lives on hold” to become job creators where’s the mourning for these great people? I’m glad Doug Ford is trying to do something, it’s never easy to shrink government, entitlement to other people’s hard earned tax dollars is a very real thing. Canadians who work 9-5 jobs are fired every day there’s never an outcry for them, Doug Ford want’s to shrink government and now politicians have something to say. Wake up Canada, these politicians need us more than we need them.

Interesting times ahead.
