Japan’s birthrate crisis hit red alert, with Tohoku University’s Hiroshi Yoshida warning the country could literally vanish by 2720 – leaving just one child under 14.
A 2.3% drop in kids has sped up doomsday projections by 100 years, as deaths outpace births by nearly a million a year.
With 30% of Japan over 65, youth locked out of marriage, and a crushing recession, Yoshida says Japan could be the first to disappear.
Tokyo’s scrambling: dating apps, cash perks, four-day workweeks, and relaxed immigration laws – tripling foreign workers by 2040 – are all on the table.
The problem Japan has is protectionism. Japan, the Japanese people are known for innovation, more broadly, making good things better, and the Japanese government went to war with it, by enacting political policies that PROTECT existing industries from extinction.
When you protect entire industries, you prevent innovation, so a lot of highly intelligent Japanese people not only can’t find jobs, they can’t leave their parents’ homes because protectionism is actually a price control mechanism that forces PROPERTY values up.
By property, most people think rentals and real estate, but you have to also factor in food, energy, and transportation. You combine this with Japan’s inability to innovate outside of the norms of what is REGUALTED by their government, and you see why there’s a birth crisis.
We write a lot about “International Dating” on this blog, and a lot of people imagine that international dating simply revolves around beauty. No, most men for example, use the services offered by Foreign Affair because of the alternatives.
Western women not only cost more in terms of money, but they also often cause more stress for Western men. Men, especially highly intelligent men, will do a benefit-cost analysis when they’re thinking about starting a family with any woman.
First of all, a woman has to impress her, and then he has to spend his ENTIRE LIFE taking care of her, at least that’s the thought process a responsible man goes through.
Now, if the cost of living is high and I can’t find a job, it’s impossible for me to start a SUCCESSFUL business because of existing regulations and nobody outside of Japan speaks Japanese, my options as a man are limited and therefore by all accounts, starting a family in Japan is not realistic.
Then you factor in the men who have jobs and are tasked with maintaining the Japanese economy. Zanryō (overtime) is a real thing in Japan.
The standard workday in Japan is typically eight hours, similar to many other countries. However, it is important to note that this does not include overtime. Many employees in Japan are expected to work additional hours beyond the standard work day, often without receiving overtime pay.
In Japan Zanryō is EXPECTED, it’s part of Japanese work culture, and this also leads to fewer men and women interested in starting a family. If this continues expect the the Japanese population to continue to fall.
What will change this? Fortunately for Japan, this is an easy fix. However, Japanese culture will have to allow the Japanese people to innovate, which means the Japanese government has to abandon its protectionist fiscal policy. How long will this take? Well the faster you share the post, the faster it will happen. So share this post.
