Toronto-based startup in a race to develop cannabis ‘beer’ – June 26, 2018

In my lifetime I’ve met a lot of people in Ontario Canada that have limitless potential, but often their visions are limited by Canada’s massive government. More times than not what’s stopping Canadian companies from emerging and becoming dominant is the high barrier to entry. Canadians have been taught to think that only the big companies have a right to exist. This is often the reason why Canadians have to go into massive debt to start a business. This is also another reason why Canadians love their big banks.

Because of this corporatists obsession, however, it’s often hard for smaller Canadian companies to support larger Canadian companies. As many of you know in the past what would often happen in Canada is that inevitably a bigger corporation would form and the larger the company got the more you’d see smaller Canadian businesses there to support it.

I knew a lot of former employees that started a business based on the business needs of a former employer not being met. A common example is an employment agency, which is a response to the private sector not wanting to pay former employees for their entire lives. A label company, the current Premier Rob Ford is part owner of a Labeling company. Labeling sounds like a small task until you get an order for 100,000 units. Manufacturing screws, nails for cars. There are a lot of small companies that emerge because of big companies and the truth is there would be a whole lot more in Ontario if the cost to start and maintain a business wasn’t so expensive.

In Ontario especially your company better turn a profit soon or you’ll end up bankrupt. What I’m saying sounds simple but this is real life for people and when politicians like Kathleen Wynne or finance ministers like Bill Morneau want to change the tax code to fulfill an ideology the average Canadian has no idea what Small businesses go through. Especially the small businesses that aren’t owned and operated by a tight-knit family.

Because of the high barrier to entry and the cheaper Asian options now available to big Canadian companies, the Canadian economy continues to morph into a service sector economy. Well, thanks to Trudeau’s Liberals Marijuana is soon to be legal in Canada which actually gives Canada a running headstart on the rest of the globe to develop marijuana-based industries. This also gives Canada the opportunity to be a global leader in this industry ahead of many other nations. Hopefully, more regulations don’t stunt the potential growth of this new industry. I ask Canadians not to push the government into adding more regulations just because of one unfortunate incident.

I wish all Canadian startups nothing but the best, we want and need you to be successful. You can click the link below to learn more.
