About 4 years before Trump became president of the United States I wrote about trade wars and what the United States could do if it wanted to be more competitive with China. Well I stand by what I said and the problem still remains unions and minimum wages. This is the problem with Donald Trump talking like this. Donald Trump is betting on America not becoming protectionist. American companies for the most part aren’t protectionist but many of their employees are and this is common amongst Europeans in general.
If you research European history and their civilizations, they start as free market and end in what today would be called communism. The reason this happens is because of the ruling classes often try to satisfy the moods of the people. In the end people are looking for someone to blame for their problems and that’s the difficulty of being a leader. Everybody who follows American politics including me know what Ron Paul the Libertarian is saying is the truth. The problem with it, is how do you sell that to a populace? People ignore Ron Paul for a reason, because they know what Ron Paul is saying is uncertainty. Sure the world is an uncertain place but people in general want someone a Trump figure for example to take the leader and tell them what they want to hear.
The downside to what Trump says is that even if he wins and China, Russia stop devaluing their currencies, the loser in all of this is America, because prices are going to go up as less people outsiders are able to compete in the U.S market. The benefit for Americans in that instance should be Buying power in China, however China has yet to open it’s markets up to the United States and it;s this reason why Trump has China by the testicles, Russia on the other hand is a wild card in all of this.
It’s the picking a fight with Russia I’m not understanding with Trump, this type of behavior to me is odd and isn’t beneficial to America at this time. I don’t think there’s any industry of importance where Russia is outcompeting the United States. Russia isn’t exactly known as manufacturing powerhouse so I’m honestly not sure about what Trump is trying to accomplish by asking Russia to stop manipulating their currency.
Lastly what I’ll say is I’m sympathetic with Trump on him trying to get the Chinese to open themselves, open their markets up to world, I think that would be a good thing not just to China but to other nations to stop charging tariffs on items made in different countries, but with that said some of Trumps more recent actions I’ve been a bit baffled about, they don’t seem to be making any sense.
