The Autonomous Region of Canada: The Separatist Movement in Alberta- May 12, 2025

Posted on May 12, 2025 by RichInWriters

When I start reading all the different visions for what separatism in Alberta might look like, what I’m seeing is Alberta dissolving into an autonomous region that negotiates without Ottawa.

Now, personally, I’m willing to give Canada’s current Prime Minister a chance to prove himself—but if Mark Carney does what he says he will do on paper, it’s not only inflationary for the Canadian economy, we’re also talking about ballooning operational costs that the Atlantic provinces and Quebec will definitely take advantage of.

What I mean by “take advantage of” is that I anticipate the Atlantic provinces and Quebec will raise their operational costs, thereby burdening Western Canada with a larger share of the federal transfer payments.

Corporatist Mark Carney

I’ve written this before and I’ll write it again: based on my analysis of Mark Carney, he doesn’t appear to be built for turmoil. I can absolutely envision a scenario in which Mark Carney steps down when the Canadian economy turns sour. And because Donald Trump adopted what used to be a Democrat stance on the U.S. economy, Canada is about to feel trade restrictions like it never has before.

Most Canadians are viewing Donald Trump as the worst U.S. president for the Canadian economy. However, things could get even worse under a Democrat president—someone who fights to protect U.S. workers without Trump’s bravado.

The quiet politician is often far more destructive than the loud one. Just look at Joe Biden—he replaced Trump and did very little to address tariffs. Expect the same scenario if Republicans lose the 2028 election to a Democrat, which I believe could happen. It’s not easy for Republicans to find a viable replacement for Trump.

On Paper Donald Trump is more Democrat than Republican

What does that mean for Canada?
It means that whatever Trump leaves Canada with might become the new normal.

You have to remember: Liberal policies, as well as the economic strategies of Quebec and Atlantic Canada, are hostile to U.S. interests. And when you factor in Mark Carney’s ties with China, it becomes clear why the U.S. is likely to maintain its tough stance on Canada.

Brookfield, the firm Mark Carney is linked to, is invested in China. Combine that with what appears to be not only election interference in Canada, but also what looks like rigged elections, and you start to see that Canada seems determined to strengthen its economic ties with Asia.

If Alberta’s oil is an “acquired taste,” it will need to be refined in Canada to become more viable on international markets. Currently, only the U.S. is willing to purchase it. And by the way, the U.S. isn’t buying Albertan oil at a discount—they’re buying it because the Canadian government restricts Alberta from accessing other markets.

Being Landlocked Has it’s Advantages, especially when the plan is to do more trade ith Asia

Although people see Alberta being landlocked as a disadvantage, the truth is that most goods from Asia—which Canada is becoming increasingly reliant on—must come through British Columbia. Alberta could very well interfere with that supply chain. You have to remember: without Alberta, Canada will be bleeding money.

Leftists in this country have no idea how much damage their policies are causing to the nation’s financial well-being—because they’ve never had to think about it.

I also like to remind people that folks on welfare don’t care about inflation or debt. They only care about whether they’re still getting something for nothing—and they want that gravy train to keep rolling.

In closing, similar to Taiwan, I can envision Alberta dissolving into an autonomous region—still technically part of Canada but beginning to ignore federal laws.

Why do I see this happening? Because I believe Mark Carney’s Liberals will approach the Alberta separatist movement the wrong way—using rhetoric instead of substance. I think Albertans will vote to leave, and I believe the left-wing parties in Canada will respond with tyrannical measures to prevent it from happening.
