Canada’s FAR LEFT Continues ASSAULT on PROPERTY RIGHTS: NDP Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow Creates “Vacant Home Tax Bills” (Federal Government Created This Problem) – April 5, 2024
To be fair to Toronto’s FAR LEFT Socialist mayor Olivia Chow, Toornto’s housing problems predate her radical far-left agenda. SQUATTERS rights have become a huge problem in FAR LEFT American cities, as Left Wingers have ALWAYS wanted to redefine property rights. Instead, Leftists imagine SQUATTERS’ rights should be LAW.
When most people think of SQUATTERS’ rights, they think of someone BREAKING INTO someone’s PRIVATE PROPERTY and refusing to leave, but squatters’ rights actually begin with RENTERS’ RIGHTS.
If you’re a LANDLORD in Toronto, you can only EVICT a tenant under PREDEFINED legal definitions, meaning that the moment you decide to become a landlord, the LOCAL government often has more CLAIMS on your property than you do.
Now, I’m not a fan of Justin Trudeau or Olivia Chow, but I refuse to be UNFAIR to these Far Left radicals. They’re still Canadians; they’re still my people, and I will put their RADICAL agendas into proper context.
Once CITIES like Toronto decided to REDEFINE property rights, SHORTAGES of landlords became a problem; homelessness is not a new problem in Toronto. It’s been around since I was a child, and it exists because of SQUATTERS’ rights.
Toronto is a big city, and a lot of residents refuse to leave, so mayors PRIOR to Olivia Chow created rent controls and other SQUATTERS RIGHTS LAWS that undermined PROPERTY RIGHTS.
This created housing shortages, not PHYSICAL housing shortages; the truth is that 5+ people could live in a 1-bedroom apartment. However, government regulations, which include safety regulations, make this illegal.
Under the Federal Liberals in the 1990s, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation(CMHC) was repurposed to help more Canadians become homeowners. The CMHC got involved in the mortgage securities and mortgage insurance market, basically creating a floor for how low housing prices could go.
This stupid idea from the Federal government, of course, ACCELERATED the housing prices, as DEFLATIONARY pricing in Canada’s housing market is basically ILLEGAL, as the credibility of the CMHC, which told investors THE CANADIAN TAXPAYER WILL BE ON THE HOOK if housing prices crashed, equated to ever-rising housing PRICES.
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation(CMHC), which is a FEDERAL Crown Corporation, created an incentive for developers to build CONDOS instead of rental housing, and this led to a lot of LOCAL and foreign investors purchasing condos and other housing in Canada, the way they’d purchase a STOCK.
Purchasing housing in Canada for capital appreciation became the norm, and because these FEDERAL policies created a lot of REVENUE for Toronto, politicians were incentivized to blame SOMETHING other than the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
Notice I haven’t mentioned Justin Trudeau’s role in all of this yet because this had nothing to do with Trudeau until Trudeau created the CARBON TAX, which accelerated INFLATION.
I think people tend to forget that HOMES and apartments create pollution, so if you’re a LANDLORD, and your energy costs, which are also your MAINTENANCE cost, are rising, and you also have to deal with tyrannical LOCAL governments, if you’re DUMB enough to become a landlord, you’re definitely going to charge a PREMIUM price for the privilege of renting out your PRIVATE residence.

So, to combat this, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow imagines a “vacant home tax,” which is an assault on private property; she wants to DECIDE how you use your property, and Justin Trudeau helped her because Justin Trudeau has declared war on Airbnb.
When I was growing up, we all knew Olivia Chow was economically ILLITERATE; Trudeau has always been an economic Buffoon, but I want to make sure people are aware of the IDIOTS that came before them because Trudeau and Chow are descendants of prior economic IDIOTS, like PIERRE TRUDEAU, just because the MEDIA during those eras had more CONTROL over perception, many imagined prior TYRANTS as heroes, they weren’t.
Trudeau government increased federal employees 40% since election in 2015 | nationalpost.com
Spending on the public service has also grown since the 2019-20 fiscal year, increasing by 32-per-cent

Published Jul 10, 2023 • Last updated Jul 10, 2023OTTAWA — Another 21,000 federal workers hired since last year has brought the total added to the federal public service since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was first elected to 98,268, according to information published online by the Treasury Board of Canada.
The federal public service, now at 357,247 employees, is nearly 40 per cent larger than it was in 2015, when the Liberals took power, when it counted 257,034 employees.
The problem Canada is having in the modern era is that “politicians” actually think they’re smarter than everyone else because they won a POPULARITY contest, and that fallacy is FINALLY being EXPOSED.
I think New York State and other far-left radical U.S. States give us a glimpse into what to expect from these Far Left Politicians. Historically, whenever politicians pursue REDEFINING property rights, they get WEIRD behavior in the markets; some investors anticipate political changes in the future while others STOP investing in certain jurisdictions altogether.
Justin Trudeau, as Prime Minister, has done a horrible job attracting capital to Canada, which is one of the reasons interest rates are higher. But you’ll notice that local fiscal policy is so horrible that most homeowners would rather suffer in silence FINANCIALLY than rent out their homes.
You have to remember that similar to Trudeau’s “carbon tax,” the money received from this “vacant homes tax” will likely be used to give GOVERNMENT workers a PAY INCREASE.
Don’t be surprised when this “vacant home tax” leads to Toronto having a larger deficit. Left-wing politicians waste resources and a lot of money on foolishness, like renaming DUNDAS STREET.
In 2 days, Toronto received over 43,000 complaints from homeowners about vacant home tax bills. The City of Toronto says it has received more than 43,000 complaints this week about its vacant home tax notices of assessment from homeowners who claim their properties were occupied last year.
Interesting times ahead
