NDP Government won’t end Stumpage fees in B.C leading to a devastating downturn in B.C. forestry – September 15, 2019,
First off, I’d like to say that I get it, I understand the Leftists and their anti-private sector, anti-profits stances. Leftists are at the very least sympathizers to communism. Now, the democratic socialist types, don’t view themselves as authoritarians, but in their plight to make everything equal, Leftists are often forced to take Authoritarian measures in order to achieve their anti-business objectives. I’d be lying if I said I fully understand how the Stumpage fees work, but what I do understand is some of the other taxes the NDP government charges businesses in B.C, in regards to gas prices, these are the taxes/costs associated with NDP government in B.C
Here’s a list of all the taxes people pay on a litre of gas in B.C.:
- Provincial motor fuel tax (Metro Vancouver) — 1.75 cents
- Provincial motor fuel tax (everywhere else in B.C.) — 7.75 cents.
- B.C.’s carbon tax — 8.89 cents.
- The B.C. Transportation Finance Authority tax — 6.75 cents.
- TransLink tax (If you live in Metro Vancouver) — 17 cents, increasing to 18.5 cents on July 1.
- Transit tax (If you live in Victoria) — 5.5 cents.
- Federal excise tax — 10 cents.
- Finally, pay the five per cent Goods and Services Tax on top of the total price.
Now, I’m pretty sure B.C forestry or the people working for these companies are having to pay the aforementioned taxes also. Now imagine combining those taxes with a Stumpage fee?
Stumpage is a fee businesses pay when they harvest timber from Crown land. The B.C. government calculates stumpage annually, so the system is less responsive than in Alberta, where monthly adjustments are made, Gibbons said.

Now, you know a government is incompetent when Marty Gibbons wo is the president of United Steelworkers Local 1-417, based in Kamloops, B.C. is telling the government the NDP government to at the very least change Stumpage fees from annually to monthly.
To give this story a little context and this is one of the main reasons why I don’t think politicians who’ve never worked in the Private Sector and ran a successful PROFITABLE business should ever be Premiers of a Province, is because it’s hard for these career politicians to comprehend the private sector. Now this is what was said by
The Forests Ministry said stumpage fees are based on market demand and the current rates reflect the scarcity of timber supply that has resulted from the mountain pine beetle outbreak and been exacerbated by several severe fire seasons.
Intervention in the stumpage system would weaken the legal case in the appeals of the duties imposed by the United States on softwood lumber from Canada, the ministry said in a statement.
Did you catch that? If you didn’t, what the BC Forests Ministry is implementing is a SUPPLY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. They’re trying to create scarcity, they’re trying to limit abundance. I’ve said this over and over again, the world, our plant is RICH, the world has already ended poverty, the world actually has the ability to end fossil fuel dependence, but guess what entity is in the way of Progress? THE GOVERNMENT! This NDP Stumpage fee story is the exact reason why Progressives, Leftists, Socialists environmentalists really need to rethink their approach to progress.
The B.C ministry is basing their policies entirely on the United States and what they think is best for private businesses. Now, what good is an employee to a company who is not working? If the government is in the business of preventing a company from being productive, well then the government is taking a similar stance to Communism. Under communism or under a system similar to Venezuelan style Socialism the government uses its powers to basically Nationalise private businesses.
John Horgan is a Career Politician, John Horgan basically worked in the Canadian Government his entire Life, he doesn’t understand Business
This more than anything is why businesses left Venezuela, Democratic Socialism, after all, is Democratic, democracy is mob rule and the reason why lawmakers should think CONSERVATIVELY before changing a law is that without a profit motive, why should a business owner stay in business? If the government knows best than the government person should run the business. This is how Venezuela drove away businesses. This is how Argentine drives away businesses, this is how many places in Latin America and Africa drive away businesses. Just because John Horgan’s government have their own ideology of how they think the world should be doesn’t mean it makes practical sense upon application.
Again, I’d like to remind readers that humanity has solved most poverty-related problems, the real problem facing humanity right now are badly constructed Governments, with horrible political policies typically based on flawed ideologies.
Do some research, John Horgan is a Career Politician, John Horgan has never run a business, let alone a profitable business, John Horgan has never had to make payroll when John Horgan makes payroll he’s making it using taxpayers money. John Horgan is a Career Politician who doesn’t understand how to run a private business. If you’re a business owner in B.C and you’re a Leftist, you at the very least want a Leftist politician who has owned a fully PRIVATE business and has successfully paid his/her employees without fail for 10 years! John Horgan is a Career Politician who doesn’t understand the destruction he’s causing to the British Columbian economy and f he’s not stopped soon, British Columbia can very soon end up like Ontario and Quebec and become a “Have Not” province.

Ontario’s downturn came under NDP leadership, now thankfully in Ontario, the damage don’t by then NDP Premier Bob Rae was immediate, so Ontarians felt the pain immediately, in B.C John Horgan is destroying the financial infrastructure of your province. Being perfectly honest I’m surprised the B.C economy hasn’t crashed yet, it’s clear from my standpoint why the drug epidemic is on the rise in B.C, because when people are struggling economically, typically this leads to mental health problems and people wanting to find an escape.

But, in Canada, we have to do a better job picking our political leaders. B.C I think there needs to be a re-think with this John Horgan experiment. He’s been a disaster, when they looked into why Gas prices were so high, turns out it was caused by John Horgan’s NDP government when you look into the drug epidemic turns out John Horgan’s government had a lot to do with that too. When it comes to high real estate prices it appears John Horgan has a lot to do with that, and when it comes to potential job losses in B.C. forestry well the name John Horgan appears to show up again. Certain people aren’t cut out for certain jobs.
