Profit-Driven Canada Post racking up close to $1 million a year in parking fines – September 29, 2019,
Canada Post isn’t included within the realm of a Public Sector worker. They work for the public, but they’re a Crown Corporation. In the United States, their postal service, United States Postal Service (USPS) is except from Parking tickets, primarily because the United States Postal Service is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government responsible for providing postal service in the United States. furthermore USPS is one of the few government agencies explicitly authorized by the United States Constitution.
In Canada, Canada Post is a for-profit Crown Corporation, which often brags about its solvency. Being that Canada Post based on legislation could be sold off similar to Deutsche Post in Germany, it operates in a very inefficient non-market-based manner in which it’s rewarded for its incompetence. Instead of meeting the demands of its consumer market, Canada Post often meets the demand of its employees.
I’ve often said Canada could have been a huge beneficiary of e-commerce had our courier services been more competitive. Anyway, the parking ticket related issues, revolve around the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), Canada Post has several times attempted to outsource particular jobs to external entities, however, their labour Union tends to want to grow their membership which acts as a hindrance for innovation. Union culture in Canada is horrendous and Government, which included Government protected entities have no incentive to push back against buffoonery. So as per usual Canada Post simply passes costs onto consumers.
In America, the inefficiencies of USPS are obvious, almost every American recognizing it, in Canada, the inefficiencies in Canada Post are hidden, you’d have to know the economics of what’s going on to understand their incompetencies. Let me be clear that Canada Post isn’t the only incompetent Crown Corporation, Canada has a lot of them. Where I take issue with Canada Post and CUPW are the number of jobs they’re costing Canadians.
