SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SaskWater and Unifor, Unionized Crown Corporations – October 20, 2019,
Saskatchewan as a province has a little over 1.1 Million people, and the unions that represent SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SaskWater are around 10,000 people if not less. Despite what people might think Saskatchewan’s private sector actually turns a profit, its public sector which should include Crown Corporations, not sure if Crown Corporations are included as Public Sectors, but they should be, Saskatchewan’s Crown Corporations are like pests on their private sectors, their even pests on the non-unionized public sector workers, primarily because a lot of people have a deep-rooted desire to fight for something and although in my personal opinion labor unions should be reserved for Private Sector workers, they exist in abundance in Canada’s already bloated public sector.
Personally I think Jerry Dias is one of the worst Union presidents in world history, however, he comes across as a genius primarily because there’s little incentive for a Crown Corporation to fight back against a labour union. Crown Corporations tend to favor their employees over their customers, labor unions are monopolies if you don’t know what a monopoly is, a monopoly equates to SaskTel having no competitor. McDonald’s has Burger King, Tim Hortons, Wendy’s etc.
However, if McDonald’s was a Crown Corporation it would have a monopoly because it would be illegal for another restaurant chain to surpass them and if let’s say a restaurant chain attempted to compete with a McDonalds Crown Corporation, they can create a law to stop it from happening or a McDonalds Crown Corporation could buy them out. To give people a better understanding of Crown Corporations, Petro Canada used to be a Crown Corporation until 2009 and consider this, in many parts of Canada in 2019, Petro Canada still dominates the retail petroleum space.
When a Crown Corporation is created typically they’ll be no infrastructure of a competitor, which is horrible for consumers because in most instances they’ll be paying a lot more money then they need too, furthermore, it makes for a borrowing existence. One of the main reasons Canada is viewed as bland is because of our culture of fewer options. If you go to America, you’ll quickly learn that America is land of opportunity because it’s the land of multiple options when you live in America there’s a feeling that you can do anything, in Canada, we’re liberated but we’re also very protective.
SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SaskWater all being unionized crown corporations, kind of tells you everything you need to know. There’s nothing wrong with it if that’s what the people of Saskatchewan want, well, it’s good for them, but I can’t blame the unionized employees for wanting to strike, why shouldn’t they, I mean really, what are the people of Saskatchewan reliant on those services going to do? Those Unionised Crown Corporations are like Putin or Xi Jinping, the people could get rid of them, but the entire social and economic structure revolves around them, so to get rid of them would mean to start from scratch. Starting from scratch is hard, it might be better to capitulate to Jerry Dias and Unifor.
Now, in the Private Sector, Jerry Dias is and Unifor typically have their buffoonery exposed, because GM isn’t forced to be here, GM is a private-sector employer which oddly enough has been getting smaller and smaller in Ontario ever since Jerry Dias became Unifors president. But you see, for some people, being part of a Union adds meaning to their lives and that’s it’s just that I’m not a fan of Unionized public sector employees, they kind of ruin nations, they’re special interest groups, the put the issues of public sector employers ahead of the needs of the public. Quitting your job is always an option and I remind people that there was a time when public servants were volunteers. Society still functioned when Public Servants were volunteers.
Anyway, Saskatchewan has a problem on its hands and as per usual UNIFOR seems to be in the middle of it. My personal opinion, Saskatchewan may want to consider looking into more privatization, I’d be lying if I said I know where to begin, but talking about it, would be a good start, because the way I see it, UNIFOR has you guys by the balls.
Liberty takes time, understanding Liberty is a work in progress, socialists ruin things, protectionism is extremely hard for most working people to understand, because greedy public servants, greedy employees, greedy unionized workforces will never consider themselves greedy, no they see themselves as the victim and in the case of SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, and SaskWater Crown Corporations, the government is the greedy entity, not the employees who managed to work for monopolized industries which if were privatized at the very least would have probably been better managed. Saskatchewan consumers get the shaft and they can’t opt-out? because no alternative exists.
In Canada, most provinces don’t want to even discuss privatizing health care, because options open up pandora’s box, if poor people had the option not to go to public school, would they go? Probably not, if I don’t feel like McDonald’s and I have an option to buy from Tim Hortons, what does McDonald’s have to do to save me as a customer? If Blackberry were Nationalised, turned into a Crown Corporation while Samsung and Apple smartphones were tariffed out of existence and unionized Blackberry workers decided that they were going on strike, what could Canadian consumers do about it?
If you guessed nothing, you’d be right, because as silly as it sounds, if Blackberry were nationalized as an example, maybe they’d design their own chip that would only work on the SaskTel network and quite possibly years of development would make it almost impossible for any competitor to compete with Blackberry in the Canadian market, as the population was dumbed down to believe that this Blackberry monopoly is just how things are and people should be patient and accept labor negotiations, how long would it take before the people demanded change? If people are comfortable enough, people typically will not fight back.
This Carbon tax Climate Change racquet is basically an attempt for the governments to control the inexpensive energy options that are getting ready to enter the market. But you see, you’d have to be an investor to know what’s happening. Right now attempts are being made using people like Greta Thunberg so multi-national corporations can set up there own SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, and SaskWater energy monopolies. I get it, that for most of you, this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but quite frankly it’s happened before, and basically I’m trying to illustrate to you how it happens and what happens after the infrastructure has been built.
I try to expose my children to other countries, namely Americans because, with all of America’s faults, there’s a broader understanding in America that nationalization doesn’t always lead to progress. The government taking over entire industries comes with pros and cons. Currently, SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SaskWater customers are all experiencing the cons. I guess the pro is this doesn’t happen all of the time?
Interesting times ahead!
